Inspiring Conversations with Ryan Radebaugh of Mr. Rad’s Cookie Studios

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Radebaugh.

Hi Ryan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a full-time elementary school teacher starting my 24th year. In 2020, I began a small business called Mr. Rad’s Cookie Studios. My students call me Mr. Rad and I have always been a movie buff, so each of my cookies are named after movie characters: The John Wick, The Mad Max, The Pollyanna, and so on. I currently have 23 different flavors of cookies that I sell out of my home. I hope to expand next year to a food truck or storefront.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The greatest challenge in this small business is TIME. My full-time job and my greatest passion is being a teacher. It’s not easy supporting a growing family on a teacher’s salary, which is the reasoning behind this business. I usually get home from school around 4:30 each day and then spend the next 2-3 hours in the kitchen fulfilling orders. It gets especially tight during the holidays when my time seems to be thinnest. It’s been a struggle at times to keep up, but it’s been a great journey!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Mr. Rad’s Cookie Studios?
My students call me Mr. Rad and I love movies (hence the name of the business). Having each cookie named after a movie character adds fun and individuality to my business. Each cookie is made by me, and baking in smaller batches allows for a better flavor than you will find in cookie chains in Utah.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I get to know my customers and create lasting friendships because each order is made by me and me alone. This connection with my customers brings them back again and again. The cookie flavors are unique and creative.
