Inspiring Conversations with Sam Lund of Lund Haus Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Lund.

Hi Sam, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been creating for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I was constantly rearranging my bedroom, drawing floor plans, and dreaming up imaginary houses for people I’d never met. Creativity was always my outlet; it was how I made sense of the world, especially when things felt out of control.

I originally went to school to become a therapist because I wanted to help people through the dark parts of life. But along the way, I realized that healing doesn’t always happen in conversation. Sometimes, it starts with a space, with beauty, with intention, with a place that reflects who you truly are. That realization completely shifted the direction of my life.

We started small, just me, my vision, and a few early clients. I tried my hand at organizing for a couple of months, but it quickly became clear that my real gift was in seeing the bigger picture: how design and function could work together to completely transform someone’s home and their sense of self. There was such a gap in the market. People were either hiring designers who made things look good but didn’t live well, or they were managing chaotic renovations with no guidance. I knew I could offer something different.

That’s how Lund Haus Studio was born. What began with smaller design projects quickly evolved into a full-service interior design and architecture studio specializing in functional luxury. Today, we work with clients across North America to design homes that are not only stunning but support the way they actually live; homes that ground them and inspire them.

Looking back, I think my own trauma gave me a deep sensitivity to how space can impact the nervous system. I know what it’s like to feel unsafe, unseen, unheld and I never want my clients to feel that way in their homes. This work is more than design. It’s about creating beauty that helps people breathe again.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road… but a meaningful one. I started this business at 27 with no real roadmap for what it meant to be an entrepreneur. I had a clear vision and a lot of heart, but I had to learn everything on the fly: how to manage a team, navigate contracts, handle high-stress clients, and lead with confidence while still figuring out who I was.

There were seasons of rapid growth that felt exhilarating… and others where we had to downsize, restructure, and face some hard truths about what was working and what wasn’t. Managing people was one of the hardest parts. I care deeply about the people who work for me, but I had to learn that being a good leader doesn’t mean being everything to everyone. It means holding boundaries, communicating clearly, and making decisions that sometimes feel heavy.

There were moments when the weight of it all; payroll, deadlines, expectations, felt overwhelming. But I always came back to my why: the people we serve, the homes we create, the stories we get to tell through design. That purpose has kept me going, even when things felt uncertain.

Entrepreneurship is beautiful… but it’s also brutal. You don’t just build a business. It builds you. And I’m proud of who I’ve become because of it. And if I’m being honest, we’re still dealing with those same challenges. I think I’ve just gotten better at managing the reality that there will be ups and downs, no matter what.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Lund Haus Studio, we don’t just design beautiful homes; we design spaces that feel like you. What sets us apart is our belief that form and function should never compete. We blend architectural precision with intuitive interior design and professional organizing to create homes that are not only stunning, but deeply livable.

My background in psychology plays a huge role in the way we approach design. I’ve always been fascinated by how our environments impact the way we feel, live, and even heal. That understanding is baked into every project we take on. We’re not just thinking about how a space looks, we’re thinking about how it supports your lifestyle, your mental health, and your sense of self.

Our work is trauma-informed and highly collaborative. We want our clients to feel seen, supported, and empowered throughout the entire process. We specialize in what we call “functional luxury” — the idea that a home should be as practical and efficient as it is beautiful, with every detail intentionally designed to make life easier and more enjoyable.

Whether someone is building from scratch or reimagining an existing space, we lead with transparency, soul, and systems that actually work. For us, design isn’t just about aesthetics. It’s about creating spaces that hold you, heal you, and reflect who you truly are because home isn’t just a place. It’s how you feel in it.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I think luck is more of a mindset than a random force. I don’t believe things just “happen”; I believe we create the conditions for good things to flow. When I’m open, grounded, and aligned with abundance, it’s like opportunities find their way to me. But when I’ve been in survival mode, doubting myself or closing off, things seem to dry up. It’s not magic, it’s energy. The mindset we carry shapes what we attract, how we respond, and what we’re able to receive.

Of course, I’ve had moments that looked like luck from the outside: a chance meeting, a client referral, a door opening right when I needed it. But behind every one of those moments were years of inner work, hustle, and showing up again and again, even when no one was watching. I think when you stay in integrity, keep your heart open, and keep doing the work, “luck” tends to follow.
