Inspiring Conversations with Sam Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Williams.

Hi Sam, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started in real estate after leaving a national & international career in event directing. I was so tired of traveling for work and never seeing my family. Like many who started in real estate, I was naive and thought being a Realtor was a career of freedom. Boy was I wrong.

After getting my real estate license, I interviewed a few different brokerages to ultimately land in a team position to learn the ropes. The leader of the real estate team at that time, Justin, has been the biggest influence on how I do real estate today. He taught me that it is a business of service, hard work, and accountability. At the time, I barely had two nickels to rub together and I was hungry to succeed. Every day that first year, I called internet leads for eight hours straight. I took every appointment, sat in any open house I could, and read up on all things real estate. At the end of my first year as an agent, I had the second most successful closings on the team and was on an SNRI prescription.

Shortly after my first year, the team was disassembled and I took the opportunity to strike out on my own. I took on clientele as a single agent and set my sights on investment real estate. At the beginning of 2020, when Covid-19 was just breaking, there was an opportunity to buy an investment property. It was a serious renovation opportunity and with the pandemic raging, I thought it would be a good place to invest my time & energy. Eighteen months later, I stood in front of a home I literally built by myself with more knowledge & experience than I could have ever imagined.

Fast forward to today, I focus on helping others build their future with real estate and investment properties. My business has expanded to have an office and operations in Idaho as well.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have a hard time not working and will take on everything under the sun as an opportunity to work. I joke that it is the, “Christian Guilt” I grew up with that makes me feel I can always do more and that being idle is wrong. After some health complications in 2019 triggered by the stress of taking on more work, I have had the revelation to take care of my mental health.

In February 2021, at the age of 30, I was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes. I was framing a house and was unable to stop drinking water which slowed down my work. I would shoot a few nails, then would have to drink 32oz of water in one gulp, then have to urinate, obviously. I couldn’t sleep because I HAD to have water constantly. This was happening for months and at six feet tall, I was now weighing 130lbs. I went to my doctor, thinking this was because of mental health stress but was asked to do a blood sugar test. A normal blood sugar range is between 80-140, my test came back at 700 with an A1C of 17.

Quickly after my diagnosis, I learned of the struggles to afford insulin. I started the Pretty Sweet Foundation in 2021 to help those struggling with affording insulin, advocate for lower insulin costs, and be a voice for Type One diabetics.

As you know, we’re big fans of Sam Williams Real Estate. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
As the only son of a custom home builder, Sam was introduced to the world of real estate from an early age. Not straying far from his roots, he is a top-producing real estate agent in Utah & Idaho, an experienced builder, and a non-profit founder.

Realizing the value of a business where you can truly reap the rewards of your hard work, he decided to pursue a career in all things real estate. In a constantly evolving industry, Sam takes pride in being part of a new generation that values authenticity over formal niceties in real estate. Sam’s mission is to give his clients the keys to ownership, not just a bit of brick and mortar. “Investing in real estate is a life-changing event; doesn’t everyone deserves someone who treats it that way?”.

Sam is the Founder & CEO of the Pretty Sweet Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit providing affordable insulin to Type 1 Diabetics. 10% of all his commissions are donated to this cause.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories is when my single mom would take us kids to the willow trees down the street (where Solider Hollow now is) and she would read us books while we lay on the limbs.
