Inspiring Conversations with Sarah MK Paris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah MK Paris.

Hi Sarah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved from Paris to NY in 2012. I’ve been working on my English and helping kids improve their French for 2years as a tutor. I met an assistant director in Harlem while on set at an outside location to whom I promoted myself that I wanted to learn about production. From this, I started as a production assistant in NY back in 2014.

The commissioner I was working with on some of the projects, thought I was overdressed on set and was trying to figure out where he should assign me on the production team and sent me to the wardrobe department. He said I was too dressed to be carrying a cable around or running errands etc.

That’s when I started as a wardrobe assistant. I style a couple of music videos, I styled a Canon commercial on my own, and I even worked as a set customer for an indie movie. In 2016 I met a new magazine owner which was looking for a stylist to style a Cover story. It was with an NBA player.

I took the job, we went to Oklahoma where he played at the time from this I started working with him. I have been learning and building. I am very proud of the journey I am on today. I’ve built my clientèle by promoting myself out there.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has not been easy. You have to put yourself out there and promote yourself as much as you can to gain new clients, it’s a very competitive industry.

Sometimes it’s also hard to deal with the creativity and the business aspect. It can take the joy away from you and make a fun job, very unpleasant.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Image/fashion consultant, branding. As a service, I offer closet editing/organization, styling, and personal shopping.

I Analyze people’s height, body shape, skin color, and hairstyle and see what would suit them. Often people like things that aren’t for them. I am here to guide and consult my clients to feel and look their best. I help people to revamp their style, save time (because I would do the shopping for them), and sometimes money (for personalities).
I am more about style than just dressing with big-name brands only. There are a lot of emerging designers with incredible designs.

I also work with press companies that lend me clothes to dress influencers/ celebrities for events and special occasions.

What were you like growing up?
I was born and raised in Paris. I have always been interested in the US.

The celebrity and entertainment culture. Since I was 6 while normal kids were watching cartoons I was watching music videos, American TV shows, etc. I remember in high school watching Law and Order every Friday night and manifesting myself moving to NY one day. Which I did when I was 22.
