Today we’d like to introduce you to Sevtap Yilmaz.
Hi Sevtap, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
From telecommunications to the biomedical industry, governmental roles, diplomacy, international trade, NGO leadership, and now Chinese metaphysics; my career has been quite exciting!
I pursued a bureaucratic career for over 25 years in the areas of bilateral and multilateral economic, commercial relations, and diplomacy. I served as Commercial Attaché/Trade Commissioner in Shanghai/PRC and Chicago/USA representing my country of Türkiye. My major was Economics and I earned my master’s degree in the same field at Western Michigan University, funded by the Turkish government’s scholarship.
I had my BA in Ankara, Türkiye. Right after graduation, I moved to Essex, UK as an intern at Marconi Telecommunications Systems, which was an interesting and exciting experience in 1989. That was my first experience out of my country. It was challenging, but also very eye-opening.
I worked in the UK for 8 months and being homesick, I wanted to go back to my country. But who would have known by that time that I will be experiencing life away from my homeland? Going back to my country, I started working in a Biomedical Engineering company specializing in cardiovascular devices imported from the US and marketing to hospitals nationwide.
In those years, my passion was pursuing a master’s degree in the US. Working in the biomedical field for one year, I entered an exam to be a government official, to work in the area of treasury and international trade. I worked in that area for 26 years before I retired. I represented my country in China and the US as a diplomat, both in Shanghai and Chicago. My last assignment was in the Turkish Consulate in Chicago as a Commercial Attaché for four years.
In addition to my role as a Commercial Attaché, I also had the honor of being the President of CITCA (Chicago International Trade Commissioner’s Association) being an NGO consisting of more than 50 Trade Representatives of Foreign Governments located in Chicago and also covering 13 Midwest States. I had the opportunity to be a board member of the International Trade Club of Chicago and the International Trade Association of Greater Chicago. As an international trade consultant, I develop plans and strategies that targeted the best foreign markets for growth.
I have strong international trade expertise, import/export, marketing, management consulting, project management, business development, and negotiation experience.
After I completed my assignment in Chicago, I went back to my country and worked in the Ministry of Economy Headquarters for the next 2 years, this led to my decision to retire and move to the US to live with my son. I was very lucky to get my green card from the DV Lottery. My son was studying Entertainment Arts and Engineering at the University of Utah, so he moved to Salt Lake City during my last year in Chicago. I joined him in 2016, and we have been in the beautiful state of Utah since.
After I retired from my governmental role, I followed my dreams of learning about Chinese Metaphysics. My interest in Chinese Metaphysics started as a personal interest at first but carried to a professional level with my ongoing studies.
I had my education in Hong Kong first, in the most prestigious schools of Chinese Metaphysics; personally trained by Grand Master Raymond Lo (Raymond Lo School of Feng Shui and Destiny) in the areas of Traditional Feng Shui, BaZi (Four Pillars of Destiny/Chinese Astrology), Face Reading and I-Ching.
Furthermore, I extended my knowledge at the Mastery Academy of Chinese Metaphysics in Malaysia with a more modern and holistic approach; combining classical knowledge with the modern life of today. I completed my studies in the Feng Shui Academy, the BaZi Academy, the Qimen Dun Jia Academy, Face Reading, the Date Selection Academy, and the Life Planning Academy.
In addition to Chinese Metaphysics, I am also offering Numerology Analysis, Past Life Regression Therapy, Breath-work Therapy, and Reiki Therapy to my clients. Aside from my consulting business, I am teaching at an online platform in all those above-mentioned areas. These are live classes, and I am offering a variety of classes every day.
My brand name is Feng Shui and Harmony, and it is a registered business in Salt Lake City, Utah.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I was born and raised in Türkiye. I lived in different countries like the UK, China, Hong Kong, USA. Other than the UK, I was with my two children in all those other countries, but there were times when my children needed to stay in Türkiye. Those were the most challenging parts of my life, being away from my children and missing them growing up. I stayed in one country for at most four years and then moved back to my country. It was never easy to settle in and then move back to my home.
My workload was hectic during my diplomatic assignments in Shanghai and Chicago. The language was the main obstacle I faced when I was in China, which was between the years 2002-2006. Afterward, I was able to learn survival Chinese so that I can handle my daily routine. One of the other challenges was that I had very little time to spend with my children since my work schedule was so hectic; hosting incoming delegations from Türkiye or arranging delegations to Türkiye in order to promote exports of my country and also attract investments. It requires a lot of time and commitment, so it was not easy being a single mom and balancing life between work and home. I wish I had more time to spend with my children so that I could have witnessed more of their most precious times.
All those obstacles helped me grow up in my own personal developmental path. I feel like I can live in any country with all the skills and experiences I have accumulated.

The Heavenly Qi is the movement and cycles of the planets, the Sun, and the Moon, and how they affect human beings which are our destiny. The second is The Earthly Qi, the surrounding environment, our homes, and its orientation. The Earthly Qi is Feng Shui, the way to use energy around us, and the forces of nature to expand the opportunities and reach to better our lives as part of the Earthly Qi. The last is The Human Qi, which is the human body, the meridians and energy fields, the soul and mind, the intellect, our personality, our own actions, efforts, perseverance, work, and beliefs.
Destiny Analysis allows us to find the secret codes behind our life purpose, our inert talent, personality, strengths & weaknesses. The basic premise of the Destiny Analysis is to help us understand our unique cosmic blueprint, so we can reinforce ourselves with the awareness, knowledge, and strength to divert our fate in the direction we desire! The Destiny Analysis is done on the basis of our birthday and hour.
I combine all these areas to provide a holistic consultancy to better guide my clients to explore their best version and the ways to achieve their goals with a living environment that supports their life path. I also teach Feng Shui, Chinese Astrology, Numerology, and Breathwork online. Likewise, I create customized classes working with the participants to fit everyone’s schedules, involved in all levels.
Not only that, but I also continue to offer International Trade consultancy to companies that wanted to develop their businesses in both countries (Türkiye and USA).
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was born in a small town of Türkiye called Kadirli and lived there till I was 10 years old. The education opportunities were limited in the region, so my teacher guided me to register for a certain exam. After getting excellent marks in the entrance exam of a charter school called “Adana Anadolu Listesi”, I moved to the city of Adana and started to live with my uncle and his family. I was ten years old at the time, and it was not easy to be away from my parents in a new and unfamiliar place.
I was very introverted at the time, and it was pretty hard for me to make new friends in Adana, but I still was able to find a handful of people to call my close friends that I still talk with even today. I was traveling back and forth to see my parents every weekend. I traveled back and forth for four years till my brother and grandmother moved to where my school was, and thus we started living together. This was how I lived till my senior year when my parents also moved to Adana. After my senior year, fate deemed it that I would once again move away from my family to pursue my higher education.
I moved to the city of Ankara to study Economics at Hacettepe University. Those years went by in a blur till my graduation, the last thing I remember getting my printed Diploma from the University. I went almost straight to the UK after and started my path down many careers. I was excited and filled with ambition, which flames were tempered in the waters of an unknown land and future.
