Inspiring Conversations with Shiloh Willey of Willey Homes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shiloh Willey.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hello. My name is Shiloh Willey. Let me share a little piece of my story with you and how I came to be a small business, woman-owned general contractor. I grew up in a little town of Utah with 4 older brothers. You would see me outside playing in the dirt, throwing a ball all with my princess dress on.

I had my life planned out…get married, have kids, and stay home and be an awesome Mom. We’ll… life has given me that and much much more!

I went to Weber State and graduated with an Elementary Teaching degree. I taught for a minute and then started my family. My husband and I dabbled in real estate and found ourselves buying a really scary vacant home. We were young, we were poor, but we made it the cutest little red brick farmhouse you’d ever seen.

We found out that we love little homes that need some love back into them!

Since then, we have brought back to life many little homes in our community!

Man, how we’ve worked and worked! Old homes are tricky and complicated when putting them back together.

I designed, tore out walls, and piece by piece made them spectacular again with little subs…our little family does it all!

It has been so fun! I love the challenge of incorporating old with new.

Since then things have evolved to where I received my general contractor’s license and clients have come to me for design advice, input on many different projects from helping design layouts on house plans to design kitchens, cabinets, and much much more that is very well thought out and practical for their needs because, we’ll let’s face it, if you know how every trade works in construction you can make a design that will work out great for each step of the way.

With our experience, knowledge and skill -we help clients design a space they truly love!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When the recession hit, no one wanted to use me. There was absolutely no work. So whenever anyone wanted a project done on their home, we’d do whatever! That’s how we came to know absolutely every trade in construction because that’s how we survived.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I specialize in woodwork. Designing spaces like fireplaces with beautiful mantels and cabinetry surrounding it.

I also design accent walls from Shiplap to beams in the ceiling.

I help design floor plans and help create more space in homes.

Examples:
I redesign closets.
Tear out old cabinetry and put in new to make the space more functional.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Love the people in our community of Farr West. Trying to hold on to that small town feel with a few dairy farms on our street.

People care about one another and watch out for each other.

Growing pains are everywhere in Utah and it’s hard to see once green fields turn into high-density housing.
