Inspiring Conversations with Stephanie Hunt of The Flairhunter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Hunt

Hi Stephanie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hello! I have been an interior designer and design firm owner for 25 years, first in Southern California and the last 13 in Park City UT. I started as Me Myself and I, then worked for two design firms, and have now grown to a team of about eight. We work on residential projects ranging from full builds to art consultations and one-of-a-kind furniture piece designing/sourcing. Our company focuses on luxury residential projects but also does and designs for some commercial projects (corporate offices) and private aviation design! Years ago, during college, I thought I was going to go to law school and wanted to be an attorney. What started as a a foray into law office paralegal and human resources work while taking the LSAT quickly evolved into design school and client work when I realized I far preferred the look of the offices and always cared more about what I was wearing and the art on the walls than I did the actual legal or administrative work! And besides, I was much better at all things creative and beautiful than I was at all things logical.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Obstacles and challenges we overcome just make us better at our jobs. Right? They range from supply chain delays (especially during and immediately following the pandemic), goods arriving damaged from overseas, staffing challenges and occasionally setting reasonable expectations on budget and project completion deadlines. All in all the successes and victories far outweigh the challenges. And the beauty of having a team is that we celebrate together, occasionally freak out together, jump in to help one another whenever extra hands and minds are needed.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Flairhunter ?
Thank you! Well I would say that while we are and have been an interior design firm with primary offices in Park City, UT, and satellite offices in Orange County CA (also now with staff in NY and Atlanta) and that we emphasize individuality, whimsy, and embrace the use of color and pattern, antique pieces with contemporary items as well, we’ve now merged and continue to merge into a larger lifestyle brand. We’ve started a podcast called The Cult of Flair, a substack newsletter called The Flairhunter Edit, and are launching e-commerce to sell furniture and home decor, merchandise and even merging into the world of fashion design. I love to contribute to design articles in trade publications and even have done some live TV reporting on design trends. We don’t take ourselves too seriously but take our projects and deadlines very seriously, and the brand motto is ‘Life is serious, design should be fun.’

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Hmmm. Can it be qualities, plural? Creativity, approachability, flexibility, timely communication and responsiveness whether it’s good news or bad. Also problem solving skills, a curiosity to learn, and the ability to grow, adapt, evolve. And to improve a bit every day!
