Today we’d like to introduce you to Tori and McKinley Matthews. They have shared their story below:
The Matthews family has been raising animals & pets for over 13 years. Matthews Legacy farm (MLF) is a small family-owned farm that loves animals! Their family motto is to work hard, play hard! MLF is a place that helps the Matthews family accomplish just that. Farms can be a lot of work but can also be a lot of fun. It is their desire that their family farm will allow them to continue to create experiences and memories that transcend generations, and thus they call themselves, Matthews Legacy Farm.
The family brought home their first Goldendoodle, Dixie – before the breed was popular. Dixie was a member of their family and would go to every event with them including weddings, family photoshoots, parties, etc.! She was the most perfect dog for their family. Dixie inspired the Matthews girls to breed Goldendoodles and to give other families the opportunity to love a doodle just as much as they loved Dixie.
Tori + Mckinley got into breeding Goldendoodles 5 years ago because they believe dogs have the power to change lives. Whether someone has a physical illness such as diabetes or a mental illness such as PTSD or depression, a dog can enhance your life and help you in ways you didn’t think were possible. They got into this industry because they wanted to make a difference and help people. Matthews Legacy Farm Puppies’ are raised in a loving environment on a 8 week puppy proven curriculum. Which focuses on building the foundation for therapy and service dog training as well as a lifelong loyal companion.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
With any startup business you experience some lows and highs. We continue to learn a lot about this industry and are constantly trying to improve our program and help puppies get started off on the right foot. Breeding inherently has a few uncontrollable factors, one of the biggest being a dog’s health. Thorough health testing is an important part of our program and helps us to produce the healthiest pups. However, some of the hardest challenges we encounter are when a potential breeding dog is unable to join our program because health concerns are discovered during screening. We prioritize a dog’s health over anything else. In doing so, we have learned that staying true to your values always leads to greater success.
As you know, we’re big fans of Matthews Legacy Farm. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are Matthews Legacy Farm, located in Farmington, Utah. We breed and raise dogs on a puppy-proven curriculum so that they can be therapy, service, and companion dogs. We are so passionate about dogs. We breed Goldendoodles, Sheepadoodles, and Bernedoodles but we are mostly known for our designer Goldendoodles – their wavy coats, and amazing temperaments.
We breed all different sizes, petites, minis, mediums, and standard sized! We are responsible breeders and we pride ourselves on our program that has taken years of research and education. We also offer a lifetime of support, we truly want each one of our dogs to succeed and thrive with their families. We are friends with many of our clients and talk to them weekly.
We give daily updates on our social media so clients can watch their puppies grow from the day they are born. Our blog is constantly being updated with dog tips such as: training tips, teething tips, crate training tips, etc. We have been endorsed by some of the largest dog product brands, including Taste of the Wild, Benebone, Kong, and Rocco and Roxie. Every effort is made to place puppies in loving homes, and we have happy customers all throughout North America.
What are your plans for the future?
We are very optimistic about the Matthews Legacy Farm’s future! We are excited to continue to provide life changing dogs to families.
