Amberly Lambertsen shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Amberly, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I’m working on hosting my first date night event! I have wanted to host events for couples, and for wives, but I’ve let how big the task seems and the uncertainty of what it would look like to plan, and if it would be worth my time, energy, and monetary buy-in to put together. I was offered a lower risk opportunity to move forward with it and see how it will go and I’m already planning the one after it!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a Certified Family Life Educator with a degree in Family Studies and a passion for helping others create strong connections within their families and their community. I started Davis County Dates as a longtime resident of the area. I was seeing people in different areas of Utah exploring fun activities and restaurants that I felt like we were missing out on here in Davis County. I realized that while we might not have some of the same things as other areas, our community is filled with amazing adventures, fun activities, and delicious eats. That led me to create Davis County Date Nights, a place where I share what can be enjoyed without leaving the community. It’s led to an amazing space that helps couples and families create connections within the community they live. It’s become a space for discovering new favorites, supporting locally owned businesses, and connecting with each other along the way. I’m working on new ways to help others discover what Davis County has to offer!
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I think time and distance and not fostering the connection is what breaks the bond between people. I love using social media to stay connected with my people and make a goal to connect more personally (through Marco Polo, texts, phone calls, or in person) on a regular basis. It can be easy to let life and busy seasons come between you and the people that matter most, but a little effort can keep those bonds intact, even when you don’t have them same amoutn of time together or the same strength of connection you always had.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes! Two years after I started Davis County Dates, I was overwhelmed and unsure about where to go with all of the ideas and goals I had for the space when I started it. I paused the website and rarely posted to social media. In early 2020, as people were looking for things to do, and into the spring and summer, when all of the regular traditions were canceled for the year, I realized I could help people stay connected to each other and their community and find placeholder traditions to help an uncertain, socially distanced time feel more connected and fun than it felt like it was going to be. That year lit my fire again and helped me find connections in the community I never had, and I believe that it helped others connect in their local community, even while we were all staying apart to “stay safe”.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
I’m 100% real online and in person. I am bubbly, bring fun and creativity to every situation, and love connecting with others, even strangers! The connections that I’ve created through Davis County Dates have been the most rewarding part of what I create. If you see me in public, please say hi! I love getting to know new people and meeting the people behind the handles that I connect with in my online spaces.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I hope they remember the love I have for my people and my passions. I hope they remember that I’m a connector. I’m passionate about connecting with other people, connecting with my community, and connecting with resources. And I love to help others connect with those things as well!
