Life & Work with Alfonso Ayala of Salt Lake City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alfonso Ayala.

Hi Alfonso, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been passionate about entrepreneurship and helping others succeed. My journey really began years ago when I moved to the U.S. in search of opportunity. Over time, I developed skills in marketing, design, and business strategy — first helping friends and local businesses, and then turning it into a profession.

I co-founded a marketing business that served small businesses, and when the pandemic disrupted that partnership, I decided to take a leap and build AY Creative. It was a moment of both challenge and opportunity — many small businesses were struggling to adapt to a digital-first world, and I knew I could help.

Today, AY Creative is a full-service creative agency. We do much more than just design websites or run ads — we partner with small business owners to help them solve problems, grow their brands, and connect meaningfully with their customers. Over the years we’ve also launched Salt Lake City Branding, a sister company that provides printing and apparel decoration services, giving our clients a truly comprehensive marketing solution.

We’ve found a special niche with restaurants, contractors, nonprofits, and professional services — especially those owned by immigrant and minority entrepreneurs. I’m proud of how far we’ve come, but even more excited about where we’re headed. For me, it’s about helping others succeed and watching their businesses — and their lives — transform.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road — but I think that’s what makes the journey worthwhile.

When I started AY Creative, it was right after my previous business partnership ended during the pandemic. That was a challenging time: I had to rebuild the business structure, retain clients, and chart a new path forward — all while supporting my family and managing a lot of uncertainty.

Another big challenge was understanding the financial side of running a business. Like many entrepreneurs in the creative space, I was great at helping others market and grow, but learning about credit, loans, and capital was a process. At first, I avoided using credit and that limited our growth. Later I realized that leveraging the right resources wisely could actually help us expand faster.

Beyond that, one of the biggest ongoing challenges is balancing quality and capacity. As demand for our services has grown, keeping operations streamlined and communication clear — while still delivering a highly personalized service — is something we continuously work on.

But all of these experiences have shaped the business and made us stronger. Today, we’re in a great place and continue to grow — with a deep sense of gratitude for every client who trusts us to be part of their journey.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At AY Creative, we help small businesses build their brand, tell their story, and grow through thoughtful, practical marketing.

We specialize in branding, web development, social media marketing, graphic design, and content creation — but more than that, we see ourselves as strategic partners to the businesses we serve. Many of our clients are small, minority-owned businesses that are trying to navigate the digital space while also managing day-to-day operations. We step in to help simplify the process and provide clear solutions.

We’ve also found a strong niche in working with restaurants — helping them design their menus (both printed and digital), create high-quality photography and video content, and manage their online presence across delivery platforms and social media. This has become a true specialty of ours, and it’s one of the areas where we see our work make a measurable impact very quickly.

What I’m most proud of is the relationships we’ve built with our clients. Many of them stay with us year after year, not just because of the quality of our work, but because they know we care deeply about their success. We take the time to understand their business, their challenges, and their goals — and then we go to work helping them get there.

I think what sets us apart is that human connection. We’re not just a marketing agency; we’re problem solvers and trusted advisors to our clients. We bring creativity, strategy, and a lot of heart to everything we do.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We love working with local business owners, entrepreneurs, and organizations who want to take their branding and marketing to the next level.

The easiest way to work with us is to reach out through our website (aycreative.pro) or connect with us on social media. We typically start with a consultation to understand where you are and where you want to go — and from there, we design a plan that fits your business and your budget.

We also love collaborating with other professionals — photographers, videographers, content creators, and even other agencies — who share our mission of helping small businesses thrive. If you’re passionate about supporting entrepreneurs and creating great work, we’d love to connect.

And for those who want to support what we do: refer us! Word-of-mouth has been a huge part of our growth. If you know a business owner who needs help with their branding, website, social media, or marketing, send them our way. We take great care of every client and appreciate every opportunity.
