Life & Work with Anna Gygi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Gygi.

Anna, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Since I was a little girl, I have been obsessed with make up. Watching my mom put on her make up as a child, I thought it was the coolest thing ever. When I turned about 12 or 13 my mom took me to the store and got me my first real makeup kit. I had the cheap kid make up before that It was constantly wanting to give people makeovers with.

As a teenager and as YouTube became a bigger thing, I would spend my time watching makeup tutorials. That’s actually how I learned to put on fake lashes. So I would take the techniques that I learned and do my make up alone in my parents’ bathroom after work.

When I met my husband and told him that I was into make up he would help me get new makeup on launch days. Once we got married, he built me a little desk and got me a ring light so I could start sharing my makeup process.

In 2020, I actually was going to start freelancing but that ended up not happening. Instead of being at home all day, I would just do the craziest makeup looks. That’s when I really started sharing them on my Instagram and now fast forward my TikTok as well.

Which puts me where I am today. Usually at night going into my office and doing my make up. Continuously sharing my art.

Also, I have to say thank you to my grandma and my parents. Who continuously support me in what I do. As well as share ideas for me to transform them into make up looks or add small details to looks. As well as a huge thank you to my husband, who’s by my side in all my crazy creative endeavors. The continuous support means everything to me. As well as someday when I show this to my child and any other future children just know I will support you and a part of me does this for you to always know anything is possible. Just be your creative self at the end of the day because this world needs more color and art

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It honestly hasn’t always been a smooth road. There have been times of serious burnout And life just intervening.

In 2020 I was pregnant with my son and I had the worst morning sickness. So that right there made it very difficult. There are actually make up looks that I can’t look at without getting sick, because I was so sick and still trying to do my make up. Thankfully that only lasted for the first trimester.

As well as currently, I took a long break from burnout trying to come up with the best and coolest looks. Honestly though taking those breaks gives me time to recharge and come back better than ever.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a creative makeup artist. Who specializes on doing it on herself not on others.

There are many things that I’m proud of and have had some big accomplishments. This year I actually released a limited edition eyeshadow palette with a small makeup company. It was dolleyesvolumelashes x anna gygi with our something sweet palette. Which truly was a dream come true!

As well as I’ve been featured in allure magazine and Pop sugar beauty magazine for some of my Halloween looks! Which those are always my favorite!

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
YouTube makeup tutorials and just makeup tutorials, in general, are the reason that I have been able to progress. Watching others be creative and show techniques that I would’ve never thought of have helped me.

Which those don’t always just come from bigger makeup artists it. Sometimes comes from the smallest makeup artist who are just beginning.

In all honesty though, when I’m doing my make up I’m probably watching Sims 4 livestream videos on YouTube or watching a show on Netflix!
