Today we’d like to introduce you to Brent Beck.
Hi Brent, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Starting the business kind of just happened. It wasn’t something that I ever aspired to have or make. It started as a little conversation among a few friends about just things that the area needed or something that could be beneficial. Then without a lot of thought one day I just decided to purchase some material for resale.
Started with 3 products brought in sidedumps from a different supply company. I had experience running equipment and doing landscaping of yards, through jobs and military training. As time went on we got more and more types of materials and got them direct from the source. The goal if there was one has never been to become rich or make tons of money.
It has always been to provide a service to the people of the area, to save them from having to drive further for things they need to make their yards into what they want. Every step since has been to fill where the demands are and they continue to exist and each year we expand more as we are able to.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
More or less a smooth road. Cause of the way we started the business and the rate that we progressed it, it was at a manageable rate.
It hasn’t been without its levels of stress. But having lived and grown up in this area most all my life, I felt like I had a pretty good handle on how a business in this area could succeed and some of the big things that cause business here to close or fade out.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
More or less we are a business that specializes in helping DIY homeowners to have what they need to do their outdoor land improvements. We are set apart by the selection of different types of materials we carry from all over the state.
The business doesn’t vary much from other supply companies other than we are simply the only one within 35-45 miles. If I was to pick something that makes us unique is that we are here to help you get what you are looking for in the most cost-effective way, even if it is not from us. We are always referring people to other places that are closer to them or offer a service cheaper than we are able to do.
We pride our business on being an honest reliable source so even if is information you need, we can lend an opinion, and hopefully have the product you are needing.
What makes you happy?
People speaking praise of our business. In the small township area, as we live in, it is the one thing that makes and breaks businesses, perhaps even more so than in other larger city areas.
My family name is on the business so that matters more than anything. If we can’t have happy customers then we don’t need to be in business.
