Life & Work with Caswell The Mighty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caswell The Mighty.

Hello Caswell The Mighty, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
We started out as 4 long-time friends getting together and playing music once a week. We decided to take a step further after about a year. So we acquired some recording gear and set up our own studio to make our first album.

Not only that we came up with the idea to release our songs solely as videos, not just your run-of-the-mill music video though. The full album is released as a series with each song being an “episode”. Each episode (song) ties in with the series’ storyline.

We also started a skimboard company (Wrong Board Company) to help with the marketing side by sending free band sticker packs with each order. On top of all that we’re making strides into setting up roots in the Salt Lake City area to immerse ourselves in the amazing music and boarding scene by starting a shuttle company providing transport to the ski resorts and Woodward Park City.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Not at all. We’ve had to move studio spots over a dozen times in 4 years. Have had over 4 drummers in 4 years.

A major challenge is learning how to produce and record your own music without being too hard on yourself while at the same time being open-minded about the outcome of the song.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Each one of us owns our own company in the construction industry as well. From an electrician to a solar, and furniture builder.

We also make skimboards together as well as music. We make all our own soft goods and merchandise as well. We run our e-commerce. We basically do everything ourselves with each one of us having our specific jobs.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out.
Just keep on going. Don’t look back, and don’t dwell on the bad things. Focus on the good and push forward. Do your homework, and immerse yourself in whatever it is your doing.
