Today we’d like to introduce you to Dennis Jorgensen.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Founded in 1958, we are the oldest Honda dealership in Utah. Our retail beginnings are humble but admirable, with my grandfather “Herb” Jorgensen building a small drink and hot dog stand just outside the nation’s newest national park at the time, Capitol Reef National Park, and capitalizing on the fresh traffic to and from the park.
That business eventually grew into a Powersports dealership with its own bowling alley, arcade, and grill, as well as a Ford and Chevy/Buick/GMC dealership. We also have a bike shop, RV sales, and repair shop, a well-stocked sporting goods department, a gun shop, and a wide assortment of toys for kids young and old! As stated before we are the oldest Honda dealer in Utah and we are extremely grateful for our customers and employees who make this business run so smoothly.
We are a family-owned and operated business spanning 4 generations now, but that family also exists outside of Jorgensen’s line and to our employees, their families, and friends. We’ve enjoyed alot of success over the years and we believe it’s due to a combination of customer service, a wide assortment of inventory and also making our customers and employees feel like family, each and every time they stop by.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. The little hot dog stand that my grandfather ran was built during the Great Depression so there is almost unimaginable work and hardship at that time in this country. Over the years, we’ve weathered economic collapses, personal struggles, and much more by banding together and taking care of each other.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Being a Jorgensen isn’t a spectator sport and almost everyone in the past 4 generations of Jorgensen’s has helped this business grow. I began working with my father “Klar” when I was around 12, helping to assemble bikes, cleaning up around the store, whatever it was that he needed me to do, I did. He was by far, the biggest reason we have grown from when he took over to where we are today.
I currently wear a couple of different hats at the store including working in the sales department, I still enjoy dealing with new and old customers and finding them the quality item that they are looking for. I think what sets us apart from others is that we try to treat everyone that comes in the door, whether employee, family, or customer, with the same respect and care that we would give our own family.
I am especially proud of where we are as a business and how we are able to be a “one-stop-shop” for our customers. If someone wants to buy an ATV, they can grab some lunch and have their kids play in the bowling alley or arcade while they fill out their paperwork and then they can go back to our sporting goods department and look at our great selection of firearms or bows.
They can even schedule service or add parts and accessories all inside the same building and we love that. We are continuing to grow and we are expanding into new and exciting areas and I can’t wait to see where we can go from here.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We are always looking for hardworking, dedicated, and upstanding employees and as I stated before, we are expanding. If you have knowledge of vehicles, ATV service/warranty, firearms, sales experience, powder coating, auto collision, and repair, we would love to hear from you.
