Today we’d like to introduce you to Devin Simmons.
Hi Devin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
What’s up guys my name’s Devin, sometimes known as 1Alone. I was born and raised in Salt Lake City, UT and grew up in Kearns. Right now I’m working on releasing my first album, and I just want it to reach everyone that can relate to the things I write about.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Growing up was pretty rough on its own, I struggled in school and ended up dropping out when I was 17. This is the year my mom passed away due to a combo of drug & alcohol abuse. But after that I went back to school and was able to graduate. AFter high school, I started to take music more seriously since my friend Colton inspired me to start rapping in 2012. Sadly this is also when he and I started heavily doing drugs and drinking which led to his overdose in 2017. That was a wake up call and I kinda snapped out of it for a while but i’m still struggling with it everyday. Growing up my dad was also in and out of jail due to the same issues, and later on was diagnosed with schizophrenia. I haven’t been able to have a conversation with him since before I can even remember. What keeps me going though is my passion for making music and also knowing that I can keep hitting more health goals. I also just wanna inspire those below me in my life, and show them that they can make it through any kind of pain and still succeed.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve been working for the same small construction company for a few years now, which is what I do to support my music so if you need a full gutter replacement for your home or biz hit me up! (just playin). But another thing I’m working on is putting together an album of songs from my late friend Colton, who went by Onlysin.
