Life & Work with Elsa Cano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elsa Cano.

Hi Elsa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
As a daughter of Mexican immigrants, I got to experience firsthand the ambition and dedication needed to be successful in life. My parents were my role models, working many hours in production plants to eventually starting their own business in the transportation industry. Seeing my parents reach their “American dream” pushed me to find my version of that. After high school, I struggled to find what I was interested in. I tried countless career areas like the medical field, production work, tax preparation and even teaching tax law, and all of that before the age of 22. When I found the beauty industry, it kind of fell into my lap, through my love of makeup and how confident it made me feel. I wanted to show other women how to also feel beautiful and confident themselves. I walked into a cosmetology school with my mind made up, worked hard, stayed focused, and never looked back. I graduated with a Master’s Esthetician license and have been doing it for 7 years now. I’ve built a career in helping other women feel beautiful! I love what I do so much that I’m starting a new journey of becoming a lash instructor so I can help other women begin and grow their businesses too.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
At the beginning of my lash career, I still had a full-time job, and started doing lashes from a very small room at my parents’ house. Between my day job and lashing, there would days I worked 12-16 hours. From those LONG days, I eventually built a strong reoccurring clientele, that I ditched my day job and went full time at a local salon. The biggest obstacle my business faced was the pandemic. It shut my business down for weeks at a time in 2020. No matter what came my way, I still remained motivated and dedicated to making my business successful.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Master esthetician that specializes in Lash extension application and training, Permanent make up, and Tattooing. My business is mostly known for my work in lash extensions. I take pride in the fact that I have created a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all of my clients. I love to continue my education and learn from my fellow lash techs in the area. There’s always more to learn and trends to keep up with!
