Today we’d like to introduce you to Emilia Buza.
Emilia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always dreamed of starting my own business. There are probably a dozen of them that I have started and failed. In spite of this, I have never felt so strongly connected to what I am doing at the moment. It may have something to do with the fact that I became a mother haha. Being with your family all the time, seeing your child grow, and fulfilling your dream is a blessings.
That is something I should thank my husband for. Throughout my beginnings, he has been extremely supportive. I came up with the idea of creating cute baby boxes after attending a baby shower. I realized there wasn’t much you could give as a gift when I was looking for a present. I wanted to find something cute for the baby and mommy, but I was unable to find anything suitable.
Everything was generic and boring. I loved to crochet, hand knit, and have wooden toys. That’s it! Why not have them? I thought to myself. In the process of looking for these items, I also became interested in photo albums and mommy journals. The colors were very bright everywhere I looked. Colors of this type are not particularly appealing to me. Everything looked very unorganized and not appealing at all. It occurred to me to create my own baby memory book.
My goal was to design something that was minimalistic, cute, and designed for moms and babies. I spent some time researching the various types of mommy journals and created my own version of them. My first sample was very exciting to receive. As soon as I received it, I started filling it out for my baby. It helped me relive those precious moments, those memories.
I wanted a book that would preserve memories for a lifetime. It was significant to me that my child could read and perhaps relive some of the joy I had caring for him. The book would be given to him later in life, haha, of course. Looking at this now, when everything is put together, I am very grateful and very excited for people who will be sharing the same joy as me while having these cute gifts in their homes.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The process wasn’t easy. It was a lot of self-doubts. Are there people who need it, do they see what I see? Was it a mistake? Social media, how does it all come together? I sure faced some challenges. I know I didn’t have it easy. Due to the fact that this isn’t my first business, I faced and am facing this challenge much easier than I ever did. I also have a strong support system in my family, which I am deeply grateful for.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
MintBaby Gift Shop specializes in baby showers, newborn, and family gifts. We have a variety of toys for ages 0-3. We have an amazing Mommy/Baby memory book, crafted specifically to include all the steps in the life of a child up to 7 years. What a joy right? Also,o we have a Memory Scrap Book.
This can be used to create beautiful photo albums, love stories, family albums, you name it! And maybe some people may think that in this world, where you store everything digitally, why do we need an album? And it is a fair question. However, do you remember when you would visit your grandparents and they would open this big big photo album and start to tell stories about family, bring up memories? It was a joy. And this is what I wanted to keep.
I want to keep that old memory and that old experience. Any of our toys will be a great addition to the nursery, to a baby shower, holiday gift. It is not something you can typically order from Amazon. The idea behind this business is to have a place where you can find exactly what you need. Not to scroll through thousands and thousands of items, which are not usually what you are looking for, but to have a place where you can go online and find exactly what you need for babies.
The business was founded in 2022, so it’s fairly new. It still has a lot to overcome. It still needs to tell its story. I believe what makes MintBaby Shop different from others is that this is a local small business. It is not meant to be like those huge retailers where every order is assembled by machines. No soul no heart. It is meant to have a place in people’s homes. It is meant to be something special.
