Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily De La Cruz-Rosado.
Hi Emily, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
After being diagnosed with a chronic illness caused by COVID, my life took a drastic turn. I had an amazing job I loved, but the illness left me feeling depressed and uncertain about my future. My husband stepped in as my source of inspiration. He brought home beautiful flowers for me to arrange, recognizing their therapeutic effect on my mental health.
I was extremely encouraged by his support and I started sharing my bouquets and arrangements on social media, I was heavily supported by my family and friends. I decided to turn my newfound passion into a business. I formed connections with local businesses and expanded my clientele, and now we have our flower studio. I still struggle with my illness but my family and friends are always there to pick up the weight. Literally and figuratively.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some of my biggest struggles were finding a balance between work and rest. I can’t always know when I will have a flare or what could trigger it. Even when I do know it is incredibly difficult to turn down clients and events.
We would love to expand but I am so limited by my disability. It is almost impossible to have an event without help so I do take on a limited amount of them.
The only other struggle is a cooler. We live in the hottest place and keeping our flowers cool is so vital to success. We are still trying to find the best solution as this is probably the biggest expense a flower shop has.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I design luxury bouquets, trying to use the best flowers you can’t get at a grocery store and putting them together beautifully wrapped or in a vase. I am known for my designs and color choices.
Also for our flower bars and events. I am most proud of the connections we have made in the small business community. We are set apart by our quality design style and our connections with locals.
So maybe we end by discussing what matters most to you and why?
Focusing on self-care, setting realistic goals, and creating the best I can for my clients.
