Hi Florencia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Hello! My name is Florencia Peña, I have been doing Permanent Makeup for about three years and a half. Before permanent makeup I was working in the Emergency Department for Intermountain healthcare, I used to work Sunday – Sunday, and hours would always be different some shifts were at 4 a.m and others at 2 p.m after a few years of being with them I discovered I was expecting My first child and I knew I had to do something different for My child because these crazy hours and low income wasn’t going to be enough for us. And that’s when I decided to get into PMU. Being a single parent from the moment I found out I was pregnant hasn’t been easy, I learned all My permanent makeup with Jova at New Age Beauty Bar & Academy, she taught me everything I know today.
A month before My son was born, My mother got extremely sick and the same year I got the love of My life was the same year I lost My best friend. I wanted to quit SO MANY TIMES but I’m thankful I never did! My mom always loved watching all the work I did in PMU and remembering all those special moments and knowing I have a son who depends on only me, I knew I couldn’t give up! Jova always pushed me to continue and pushed me to be better than I was yesterday and thanks to her three years later. I am now educating others on Permanent Makeup! I’m extremely thankful I never gave up and now I offer over 10 + services for both men and women!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not! Being extremely shy and having self-doubt was always holding me back! At the beginning of My career, it was hard building My portfolio because I was so hard on myself for not being good enough! But with time I learned you need to step out of your comfort zone! If it doesn’t challenge you it won’t change you!

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Don’t worry too much about what others may think or if you’re not good enough because you are your toughest critic! Be confident!
