Life & Work with Ian Rich

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ian Rich.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As a child, my parents taught me to be frugal. We didn’t have a substantial amount of money to go out and do much, yet we were happy with what we had. When I began high school I started going to thrift stores with some of my buddies. I have never understood why people spend $30 on a brand new shirt when there are thousands of shirts out there that have tons of life left.

I fell in love with the euphoria of finding unique shirts and jackets that I knew nobody else was going to wear to school. Little by little my closet started filling up and I started UpstateThrift as a page where people could afford shirts at a reasonable price yet get something that is unique of its own.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think starting anything is going to ever be smooth in life, it all requires hard work, dedication, and persistence. If I didn’t enjoy thrifting or finding unique Utah Jazz stuff I wouldn’t be doing it. Aside from the work it takes I very much enjoy the process.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Utah has a strong passion for sports, especially the Utah Jazz. We seek in finding vintage Utah Jazz items such as hats, shirts, jackets, and collectibles.

With the demand being so high for their 90’s memorabilia we are known for helping people have easier access to rare and hard-to-come-by items. We are proud to be able to provide hundreds of Jazz fans with gear that they can rock to games, events, and activities.
