Today we’d like to introduce you to Jova Thomaz.
Hi Jova , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey in the beauty industry has been driven by one simple passion: helping people feel confident in their own skin.
Before entering the beauty world, I spent over 13 years working in the medical field as an ophthalmic assistant. During that time, I learned the importance of caring for people, listening to their concerns, and helping them feel comfortable and supported. While I loved patient care, I always had a creative side and a passion for beauty and artistry.
About 9 years ago, I took a leap of faith and began my journey in permanent makeup. What started as a love for brows quickly became so much more. I discovered that permanent makeup isn’t just about enhancing someone’s appearance—it’s about restoring confidence, helping busy women simplify their routines, and giving clients the freedom to feel beautiful every day.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with hundreds of amazing clients, many of whom have become friends. I’ve continued to invest in advanced training and education because I believe my clients deserve the very best. Every face tells a story, and I love creating customized results that enhance each person’s natural beauty rather than changing who they are.
Today, as the owner of NABB Beauty Bar, I am incredibly grateful for the trust my clients place in me. Whether someone comes to me for their very first brow appointment or needs help correcting previous work, my goal is always the same—to make them feel heard, cared for, and confident when they look in the mirror.
This industry has given me the opportunity to combine my love for helping people with my passion for artistry, and I truly feel blessed to do what I love every day.” ❤️✨
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building a clientele from the ground up was not easy. Every client had to trust me with their face, and I knew that trust had to be earned through hard work, consistency, and exceptional results. There were slow seasons, long days, and times when I questioned whether I could continue. But I kept showing up, learning, improving, and believing in my vision.
What many people don’t see are the sacrifices behind the scenes—the late nights, the financial risks, the emotional ups and downs, and the pressure that comes with running a business. But despite the challenges, I am incredibly grateful. Every obstacle has helped me grow, and every client who walks through my doors reminds me why I started this journey.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in soft, natural permanent makeup that enhances the beauty that’s already there. My goal has always been to create beautiful, long-lasting results that help my clients feel more confident while still looking like themselves. I truly believe permanent makeup should gently enhance your features, not change who you are.
What sets me apart is the care and heart I put into every appointment. I take the time to listen to my clients, understand their concerns, and create a customized plan that fits their unique features and goals. Many of my clients come to me after feeling disappointed by previous permanent makeup experiences, and it means so much to be able to help them feel excited and confident again.
What I am most proud of isn’t just the business I’ve built over the past 9 years—it’s the trust, friendships, and relationships I’ve formed along the way. Being nominated as one of the Best Permanent Makeup Artists in Salt Lake City by my clients was incredibly humbling and something I will always cherish. Knowing that people trust me with something so personal and important is a privilege I never take for granted.
At the end of the day, the most rewarding part of my work is seeing someone look in the mirror, smile, and feel a little more confident than when they walked in. That feeling is what continues to inspire me every day.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
One piece of advice I would give to someone starting out is to be resilient, stay dedicated, and never stop learning. Success rarely happens overnight, and there will be challenges, setbacks, and moments of self-doubt along the way. Don’t let those moments define you—let them help you grow.
Be open to meeting new people and building genuine relationships. A strong network can open doors, provide support, and create opportunities you never expected. Some of the most valuable lessons and connections in my career have come from the people I’ve met along the way.
Most importantly, be willing to be a beginner. Stay humble, ask questions, and understand that mastery takes time. Every expert was once a beginner who chose not to give up.
And always treat your clients with kindness, respect, and genuine care. People may forget what service you provided, but they will always remember how you made them feel. When you lead with integrity and truly care about the people you serve, you build trust, and that trust becomes the foundation of a successful and lasting career.
