Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamee Valdez.
Hi Kamee, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always loved documenting milestones and everyday life. Back before iPhones, I carried a little point-and-shoot camera everywhere—whether it was the last day of school, a celebration, or just hanging out with friends. Those photos are still some of my most treasured memories, and I think that’s where my love for preserving moments really began.
As I grew older, I carried that passion with me while traveling and backpacking through different continents. The images I captured became my souvenirs, each one holding the stories of where I had been and what I had experienced.
After serving four years on active duty in the Air Force, I transitioned into the Reserves following the birth of my first son. That shift gave me the flexibility and space to finally pursue photography as more than just a passion—it became my career. Today, I get to combine my love for storytelling, art, and connection in a way that feels deeply meaningful.
Since becoming a mother to two beautiful boys, my work has evolved to specialize in fine art motherhood photography—capturing everything from maternity to newborns to young families—as well as weddings.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes and no. When I went full-time in the fall of last year, my business took off quickly—which was such a blessing—but I also found myself burning out. As much as I loved pouring into my work, it was taking too much time away from my family, and I knew something had to shift.
That experience pushed me to restructure my business and refine my pricing so that it could be more sustainable, both for me and for my clients. Now, I’m able to serve in a way that honors my family life while still providing an elevated, full-service experience.
Of course, like any creative career, there are slower seasons and busier ones. One of the ongoing challenges has been reaching and connecting with my ideal audience—but it’s also been one of the most rewarding parts of the journey. Each year I feel myself getting closer to the people who truly value and seek out the intentional, fine art experience I offer, which is both exciting and motivating.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in fine art motherhood and wedding photography. My work focuses on capturing life’s most meaningful seasons—everything from maternity and newborns to young families and wedding days. I take a very intentional approach, guiding my clients through a full-service experience that goes beyond just taking photos. From wardrobe and styling to heirloom artwork, I want each family and couple I serve to feel cared for from start to finish.
I’m most proud of creating imagery that feels timeless and deeply personal—photos that will still hold beauty and meaning decades from now. What truly sets me apart is the way I blend an editorial, fine art style with a warm, relational experience. My clients often tell me they not only love their images, but also how comfortable and seen they felt throughout the process. To me, that is just as important as the final gallery.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I was born in the Philippines, and some of my fondest childhood memories are of weekends spent at the beach with my family. My dad would often plan spontaneous getaways, and we’d spend hours soaking up the sun, playing in the sand, and laughing together. The village I grew up in was lined with mango trees, and I loved climbing them to reach the ripe, golden fruit—a small adventure that felt like magic at the time. Those carefree days, between the sparkling waves and the fragrant mango groves, are moments I still treasure deeply.
