Today we’d like to introduce you to Lakeasha Jackson.
Hi Lakeasha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
From tragedy to triumph — becoming a successful fashion icon!
My name is Lakeasha Jackson. I am a model, an actress, a casting director a serial entrepreneur, and also the founder of the cosmetic line VIVALUX7. Having a huge passion for the fashion industry, along with being faced at the young age of 17 with the brutal murder of the man who would’ve been my husband, my son’s father tarnished my entire life. This rewrote my future, because not only did it leave me a heartbroken single mom of a 7-month-old baby boy, but also a single “teen mom”, it honestly left me mentally and emotionally paralyzed.
I’ve spent many years praying and planning different ways to turn my numbness, pain, ambitions & aspirations into my very own legacy. As I stated before my love for fashion has always been very vivid in my life, which led to me working in the fashion industry as a teen before the murder, jack of all trades, yet I’m still learning to fully embrace my strengths, it’s a daily decision for us to shift our prospectives and focus on our blessings.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
If we are being transparent, no. The murder of my son’s dad left me so broken, which led to years of PTSD.
I’m honestly still in my healing process 15 years later but with God on my side, I’m determined to turn all my pain into fuel to reach my divine purpose. Another struggle has been not fully being focused. Distraction comes in many forms. Focus and consistency are both vital to success.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Fast forward to today, not only am I a model in the industry; I am now working alongside as a casting director and PR to a major international fashion designer Mariano Feliciano. He is the creative director of the luxury lifestyle brand Forever Lavi which implements the elements of his environment and life journey throughout his art and fashion.
Consciously exploring the world and different cultures, he pulls inspiration from every place he has had the opportunity to roam: he has wandered from Shanghai to South Asia to Bali, from Indonesia to Miami, Florida to currently in Tokyo. I recently assisted him with casting directing during NYFW 2023 as we presented the TOTALITY Fashion Show Gallery Exhibition. We are also preparing for Tokyo Fashion Week 2024 and so much more that I have to keep as a surprise.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
My view on risk-taking is a bit cliché but also very important. I honestly feel as if taking risks in life is always better than living in regret. I’ve taken a lot of major risks and I must say it’s made me the successful woman I am today.
For example, I’ve even attended major events/fashion shows without even fully mapping out accommodations, just flying out to new cities and walking by faith. Those same risks have changed my life drastically. Networking can get you into doors that degrees can’t, therefore you have to be willing to take risks.
