Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Cohen
Hi Lauren, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have lived in Salt Lake City, UT for about a decade, though I originally grew up in Rhode Island on the East Coast. While the East Coast is undeniably beautiful, I always had a dream of heading west. The diverse landscapes of Utah—its mountains, lakes, deserts, and more—drew me here.
Over time, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for Salt Lake City, especially for its eclectic music and arts community. This city is home to incredibly talented artists, and I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with many of them.
This community has inspired the next chapter of my photographic journey: capturing live performances and working on photoshoots for artists. It has enriched my connection to the city, and I am proud to call Salt Lake City my home.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I doubt any artist or creative professional would describe their journey as easy. It’s a path that often starts with the ‘fake it till you make it’ mindset and gradually evolves into genuine confidence in your work. These days, I feel more in tune with myself as an artist, but creativity is never a constant—it ebbs and flows. What I’ve learned is that as long as you keep fueling that creative spark, there’s no ‘wrong’ way to be an artist. The process itself, with all its twists and turns, is what makes the journey worthwhile.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Currently, a lot of my work focuses on photography, particularly within the local music and arts community in Salt Lake City. I specialize in capturing live performances and creating dynamic photoshoots for artists.
Early in my career, I began in on-mountain action snow sports photography, which honed my skills in capturing fast-paced, high-energy moments. From there, I transitioned into wedding photography, where I learned to capture the intimate and emotional moments that define such special occasions. Now, I’m proud to bring that experience into my work with artists, where I combine technical expertise with creative expression.
What sets me apart is my deep connection to the community I work in and my ability to blend artistic expression with professional quality. My diverse background allows me to understand the unique energy of each artist or event, which is reflected in the authentic imagery I produce. I take pride in my journey as an artist, continuously learning and evolving, and I’m honored to have contributed to the thriving creative scene here in Salt Lake City.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is the value of adaptability and embracing the ebb and flow of creativity. Early on, working in action snow sports photography taught me to expect the unexpected and capture moments that pass in an instant.
Transitioning to wedding photography challenged me to be even more attuned to the emotions and nuances of each unique event. Now, as I work in the music and arts community, I’ve learned that creativity isn’t always linear, but if you continue to nurture it, the results will follow. Being flexible and open to growth has allowed me to evolve as an artist, and it’s a lesson I carry with me in every new creative adventure.
