Life & Work with Lauren Cohen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Cohen.

Hi Lauren, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am originally from the East Coast, and on my 13th birthday, my dad gifted me my first professional camera. It took me until I was 18, to start sharing my work with friends and family. And then at 22, I shot my first professorial event…my sister’s wedding. I then got offered a job working on the mountain shooting action photography, and then eventually went on to manage a photography venue in CO.

Nowadays I do what I truly love and that is portraits of creatives, artists, small businesses, and brands.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being a creative is never smooth; from everything like imposter syndrome to feeling on top of the world. There are always bumps in the road where creativity falters, but I have learned to be patient enough to let creativity ebb and flow. To be inspired is not something an algorithm can bring you; you need to let it develop on its own.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in portraits, as well as small businesses and small weddings/elopements.

I think what sets me apart from others, is I truly try to capture my subjects for exactly as they are and not trying to force emotions out of anyone. I want people to feel like it’s just them and I with a camera, just hanging out, and having fun. And I truly think making my subjects feel like we’re just friends playing, and that is why I am able to capture the true essence of a person, and I believe that is what sets me apart from others.
