Today we’d like to introduce you to Lizzy Mildenhall.
Hi Lizzy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Shortly after graduating college, I found myself working at a craft supply store and admiring the beautiful beads in the bead aisle. At 4 months pregnant, and with no more homework to do, needed to find a hobby besides watching Netflix with my husband. Little by little I taught myself how to bead via YouTube videos and trial and error. Flash forward a year and a half, and I started listing my items on Etsy and attending local farmers’ markets. It’s a great hobby that brings me such joy when people find an item that they want to take home with them.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’m not where I want to be yet with my Etsy shop, I still have plenty of room for improvement there. Getting noticed on Etsy, especially during these tough times is incredibly difficult. I consider myself very lucky for the sales I have made so far, and plan to keep working to improve my shop and get my items noticed.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in beaded and gemstone jewelry. I’m always finding ways to make flower-themed jewelry because I love floral patterns so much. The closest word I can think of that describes most of my jewelry is hand-woven, and that’s what sets me apart from others. Most of my jewelry is made with a needle and string, so there is a huge labor of love involved.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Connecting with others and being personable is a big part of being successful. I love to see others feel good with their accessories, and playing a small role in that is so exciting for me.
