Today we’d like to introduce you to Marissa Pope.
Hi Marissa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Enjoyed learning about art from my mother and learning to recognize beauty everywhere from both parents. I studied Interior Design and Human Ecology at BYU. I married my biggest crush and we had our first of five babies a month before I graduated. I supported my entrepreneurial husband by taking care of all things related to the home and family for the first 18 years of our marriage. During that time, I helped friends and family with their homes. I learned to reupholster and do small woodworking jobs on the side. My husband gifted me the opportunity to design and build our dream house. We decided it would be a great place to launch my interior design business. He helped with kids while I pursued my talents further. I work along with my sister-in-law Laura Dickson who is an amazing designer as well as my best friend. We love what we do and love helping create beauty out of every space we can. Design is a perpetual and growing part of life full of change, growth, adaptation, and it’s just beautiful.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are always struggles in life. I feel like challenges are the only way it is possible to grow. I welcome challenges to a certain degree. Raising five kids while developing and strengthening talents has definitely been a challenge but they are the greatest most beautiful part of my life and wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. We built our businesses from scratch so budgeting and DIY and being creative with our resources have always been a fun challenge. I’ve learned that discipline and motivation are two major drivers in life. Motivation is great, when it’s there, but it isn’t as consistent as it needs to be. Discipline is more of a strength that is developed over time. You can get through any challenge with discipline.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Our goal is always to create beautiful spaces where families can thrive. Creating beautiful and functional spaces brings so much harmony to our lives. Productivity is more likely achieved in inspiring and functionally practical spaces. This is what we like to create. Integrated with the client’s personality and experiences is what makes it an original work of livable art.
We are most known for our home “Maison de Reve” that was in the Utah Valley Parade of Homes in 2020 that won the People’s choice award. It is a large gathering place and home. It has very traditional architectural elements. The french undertone to each space is what keeps the flow just right. There are several different genres throughout. For example, the office on the main floor has a modern french colonial feel, while the kitchen has a french bakery feel to it. The primary bedroom has some french art nouveau and art deco-inspired elements.
I’m proud of the fact that we provide a very personalized experience with each of our clients. Interior Design is an investment and can result in high level of utility for life if it’s done with the client in mind and not just satisfying the latest trends.
We love being part of new builds from the very beginning to the very last detail. We always love a good remodel or room refresh.
What sets us apart from others is our knowledge base. Laura and I love art, architecture and history and have studied it and continue to study. We love bringing meaning and substance to our work. We have found it inspiring to help our clients discover and understand why it is that they love what they do. It helps them moving forward with choosing what to add or edit from their homes in the future.
What matters most to you? Why?
Family. We do what we do to bring families together. To help individuals become their best selves and become a positive influence to the world and family around them. Thoughtfully and purposefully designing spaces with families in mind makes all the difference with mood, productivity, relationships, and generally satisfying life.
