Life & Work with Philip Rogich

Today we’d like to introduce you to Philip Rogich.

Hi Philip, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As long as I can remember I have loved taking photographs. About twelve years ago I met a photographer at a convention. He worked with models and published his own small magazine. I spent about an hour talking with him and how he got started. Once home I thought more about it. I logged on to a modeling website that he told me about. I found there were many amateur and professional models in the area. I found another photographer a few miles away that was willing to mentor me. That when it really took off.

One of my first shoots was a group shoot at a haunted house that I ran security for. I learned I was good at organizing groups and liked doing themed shoots. I then started doing one on one shoot and started networking. I got into doing modeling photos at car & motorcycle shows. To this day bike and car shoot are something I’m known for.

As time went on, I got my work published in magazines all over the world and for a short time put out to small magazines of my own. I have opened my own large home studio where I create and build theme photography sets. Recently I was asked to shoot with a well know area artist.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Groups shoots are hard. People make commandments and then break them. Car and bike shoots are hard because there are lots of moving parts. You need a big area with a nice background. You need lots of models. Then you need owners of bikes and/or cars willing to let you shoot with them. I’ve had shoots with lots of models and only a few vehicles or lots of vehicles and a few models. I’ve been told no about shooting in some areas. I’ve shown up to find areas closed or under construction. With outdoor shoots, weather can also be an issue.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m known for making my shoots fun, many people come back over and over. As a former Police officer, a make sure people feel safe and comfortable. I’m a great organizer and teacher. I can take a rookie model and get the most out of them. I have a knack for finding new places for shoot and thinking up ideas for photoshoots. I know what magazines look for when picking photos. I’m great at creating themed sets for people to shoot on.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I love to be creative but I also love helping people feel good about themselves. I have found with most people that these photoshoots help build self-esteem and make them feel good about themselves. Many are former victims or survivors.
