Today we’d like to introduce you to Rainan (Radivm) Vega
Hi Rainan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Music has always been a massive part of my life. As far back as I can remember, music always had a huge impact on me and the world around me. Some of my fondest memories are listening to burned CD’s with my mom or my grandma. My mom was a big raver, so I was introduced to electronic music from a very young age. Despite this, I didn’t really fall in love with EDM until later in life. Me and my mom had been separated for many years due to some issues within the family, and when we reunited she introduced me to her new boyfriend, my now step-dad. Of course, like any other teenage boy, I didn’t really like him. It didn’t take long for that to change. The more time we spent together the more we clicked. He just so happened to be a very well known name in the underground electronic music scene of Ogden, and from the first time I saw him DJ, I was hooked. I had never really delve into house and techno music until then, but once I started I could never stop. The raw emotion that music makes me feel is unlike anything else I have ever experienced, and being able to shape it to my vision changed everything. I started playing on this little Numark controller that he had whenever I went to their house, just messing around learning the buttons and such and that quickly evolved into me DJing alone in my room for months on end. Almost overnight it became everything to me. At the time, I was struggling with some serious addictions and a whole slew of other issues and the music was the only escape I had from everything. The more I played, the better I got and it wasn’t long before I started booking shows with some of my step-dad’s friends. After my first live set on a Twitch stream called “C0ldStorage” it was obvious to me that that’s what I wanted from this life. And ever since I have been devoted to making this dream come true. I started writing music about 2 years ago and have slowly just been building my craft since. It has been a slow walk so far but the journey has just begun, and I couldn’t be more grateful for where I am or where Im headed. I owe it all to my mom and step-dad. Pixii and Vince Vega.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, anything worth having is gonna come with hardships. Many sleepless nights working on songs that will never be released, countless of hours learning new techniques and many bombed sets. But the failures are all steps in the path to greatness. I feel like as a performing artist, you have to do bad in front of crowd at least once, it’s good to know how that feels. It makes it less intimidating.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a music producer and a DJ, I specialize in most forms of electronic music but mainly I stick with house music and breakbeats. I dabble in everything though, dubstep, drum and bass, techno, etc. So far, I think Im most proud of my own versatility. While it might be my biggest downfall, I also think it’s what makes me different. I play everything. One set can consist of 5 or 6 genres, blended fluidly to create a unique experience.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Youtube, YouTube, YouTube. While I had a ton of guidance from my stepfather and all of his friends, I am self taught in almost everything, and the only way I could have done that was YouTube haha
