Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Phillips.
Hi Shannon, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started taking photography more seriously in the 8th grade and from then on I knew I wanted to make taking photos my career. Throughout high school, I found that I loved creating portraits. I began by offering free photos for friends and family to improve my skills. By my senior year in high school, I was being paid to take senior portraits. I decided to attend college and pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Photography. Today I’m continuing down that path and growing my business while in school.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a young college student and trying to run a business is not easy. I have had struggles finding my own photography style, gaining clients and keeping up with my school work all at the same time. To be successful in your own eyes takes a lot of effort. Though I’m not where I would like to be in my career, it’s worth it to keep fighting.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a portrait photographer currently in school getting a BFA degree. I focus more on photographing families, couples, or just traditional portraits. I love being creative with color and unique poses. Being able to give clients beautiful images and helping them feel confident in who they are bring me so much joy! My style is warm and bright images. This style is different than the traditional bright color images. The warm tones are modern and reflect the joy found inside them. I am most proud of my progress from when I began photography to now.
Any big plans?
I hope to finish college and become full time photographer. I hope to not only be giving clients beautiful images but also to be working with brands! In the future, I plan to travel more around the world photographing in many different and unique places!

- For Portrait session, I charge 130$ for 1 hour 1 location and 1 outfit change
- For Family session, I charge 175$ for 1 hour 1 location and 1 outfit change
