Life & Work with Steffanie Anderson of Downtown Saratoga Springs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steffanie Anderson.

Hi Steffanie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up dancing. 32 years ago I got into fitness while Tony was in grad school getting an mba. We formulated a dream of opening a fitness facility that first year of grad school and spent years in the industry. I started teaching everything I could get my hands on. Tony went to work in corporate America. As we traveled around the country we realized that our parents were aging and our children didn’t really know them. So we picked up and moved to Utah to be close to family. We loved the beauty here and decided it was time to make our dream come to life. So we opened YogaVega in April 2017. We went from 6 members on the day we opened to 450 members today. We started with 18 classes and today we have 83. Our mission has always been to consider the person and their needs over maxing out what they could pay us. We love being that place where everyone feels welcome because they are seen and heard. We don’t tell people what to do but instead help them realize their potential.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The thing no one tells you when you open a business is that living the dream is HARD! Sleepless nights, texts at 11pm, COVID! But staying focussed on helping the ONE fills our lives free of regret. Sure we need to make money to keep changing lives for the better, but there is so much satisfaction in being surrounded by people who’s quality of life is improving because of what you’re doing, in part.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
YogaVega provides fitness classes in Pilates, yoga, TRX, cardio, aerial and pump. We are so proud of the diversity of clients and their abilities. There is such satisfaction in teaching a yoga class and seeing everyone’s interpretation of the practice.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Everything passes. That less than ideal interaction with a member, that employee who betrays you, the client who leaves for a competitor. All those yucky feelings end and get replaced with other wonderful people and new memories. So I give myself 2 days to mourn and then I move on.
