Today we’d like to introduce you to Thomas Wayne Riley.
Hi Thomas Wayne, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am from Northern Georgia but at 16, my parents moved us to Oklahoma. When I was at the University of Oklahoma and studying Archaeology, I fell in love with the American Southwest. I began to visit as often as I could to explore, camp, hike, and enjoy the incredible wilderness of the American Southwest. A few years ago, I moved my own family to New Mexico where I’d always dreamed of settling down.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has thankfully been a smooth road thus far. It took a while to gain the audience and to be able to move to the American Southwest but it has been an incredibly enjoyable ride.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I primarily read, study, write, and record a long form History Show about the American Southwest. I have covered everything from the Anasazi, the Spanish, Billy the Kid, the Civil War in the Southwest, the Mexican War of 1846-1848, the Apaches, and more. I also create little stickers and pins but my primary focus is on educating the curious on the history of this incredible region of our beautiful nation.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
It’s best to have patience. It’s also very important to make a great product, which takes time and effort. Meeting people in real life and growing connections is also extremely valuable. Not just for your work but also for your own personal life.
