Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Chadwick.
Hi Tina, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story begins in Salinas California where my grandmother was a florist.
I would visit her during the summer and help around the flower shop playing with flowers and doing odds jobs here and there.
Fast forward about 20 years. Because of my story working with my grandmother, everyone thought that I naturally did flowers and I was asked to do weddings and events.
I worked in a few flower shops here in Utah county and learned to design and understand many parts of the floral industry.
When our family moved to Highland and I discovered there was a flower shop in the shopping area.
Painted Daisy Florist. What a cute name!
I thought I would go in and see if they needed help.
I wasn’t really looking for a full time job since I still had teenagers at home.
I left my number and received a call the following week.
I was thrilled to be in the work force again.
I began working part time a few days a week.
After working for The Painted Daisy Florist for a couple of years, the owner asked me on Valentine’s Day 2012 if me and my husband wanted to buy the shop.
She had originally started the shop to help her brother have a business but a flower shop wasn’t what he wanted to do.
Her health was declining and she was interested in doing something else that wasn’t so taxing.
I hadn’t ever thought of owing a business.
Especially a flower shop.
I had doubts come into my mind. I didn’t know if I could keep it a float. I didn’t have a lot of confidence in my abilities. I didn’t know how to run a business.
My husband however was very convincing and said he knew I could do it.
I decided that I would try but if we ever went “in the red” I was done.
We have had busy years and not so busy years but have never gone in the red.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We have some of the same struggles as other retail businesses such as employee retention and supply chain issues but each week can be a bit of a stressor.
Our business is determined by customers needing flowers each week.
We are working with a fresh, perishable product that can’t be frozen and needs to be used in certain amount of time to retain freshness.
We are under pressure to sell the flowers that we receive each week quickly.
Luckily, we have amazing regular clients and we appreciate their dedication to The Painted Daisy Florist.
We also appreciate our new customers and are grateful to all who enter the flower shop.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are a part of every season of our customer’s lives.
New babies, baptisms, high school dances, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, holidays, thinking of you gifts for a neighbor or friend, and funeral flowers at the end of their lives.
We see happiness and sadness, love and I’m sorry’s, thinking about you and just because emotions in the shop daily.
We are known for our flowers lasting a long time.
I have worked in flower shops where that wasn’t a concern.
I have a food system for our flowers that has helped with this.
I want to make sure our customers have a good experience with our flowers and our employees.
That is why we offer personalized customer service and are a “Yes, we can” business.
This means that we try to say yes to whatever our customer needs and if we can’t help them, we try to direct them to someone who can or give them another option to solve their problem.
The thing that I am most proud of is that we have been open for almost 14 years and we appreciate our community supporting us to make that happen.
We are also excited to announce another store located in Saratoga Springs coming in 2026. Saratoga Flower Studio.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My husband and family have been there through it all.
Each family member has worked at the shop at one time or another and my husband is they guy that can fix everything. In fact he built our new shop with a larger cooler and customer retail space.
He is my support and my strength.
My girls know the business and helped when they were in high school with school dance flowers and keeping things organized.
My staff are amazing and I appreciate each one. Without my staff, I wouldn’t be in business. Most are moms themselves and work part time. Some have been with the shop over 10 years. We love to work with responsible teens and hire them to help with driving and processing flowers and working around the shop.
I trust in the Lord and listen to the Spirit to operate the shop.
I try to listen and follow the thoughts that come to me in my personal life and professional life.
This has help us to be a successful business.
