Meet Abbey Raynor

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Abbey Raynor.

Abbey Raynor

Hi Abbey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I started taking photos in middle school after I received my first “nice” camera for Christmas.

I was always making my friends and siblings models for me. I constantly watched my favorite photographers on YouTube, trying to learn as much about portrait photography. Portrait photography was so intriguing to me, as was the way you could capture emotion through an image.

I didn’t start taking my photography business seriously until my senior year of high school. I started my Instagram page and my website, and then I worked my butt off to get my name out there more and to get more experience shooting with models and other photographers. To this day, I am still learning and growing, and I’m so grateful for all the wonderful people I get to create with.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Since I’ve been self-taught, I would say I’ve had my struggles. Learning all the lighting techniques, editing, posing, and the business side of everything was tricky.

A big struggle for me was having confidence and faith in myself throughout the years. I’m grateful for all the cheerleaders who gave me the confidence when I didn’t have any to make it this far in my photography career.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a portrait photographer. I’ve been known for more unique and moody portraits. My self-portraits are also a big part of my photography. I would say I’m most proud of the most recent work I’ve done in the past six months.

I feel as if I am finally creating images I’ve envisioned in my brain since I was 14. I’ve been inspired and happy lately with what I’ve been creating! I’ve been told I have a distinct style and how I edit my images and compose my shots. I always try to make sure there’s an emotion behind my images and create something simple but different.

How do you think about luck?
I don’t know if I would call it luck, but I feel pretty lucky to have met the people I’ve met and the connections I’ve made through photography. There are so many incredible creatives out there, and it’s so cool to support my creative friends, and we get to work together and inspire each other.

Thanks to social media, I’ve been able to work/meet with the most amazing people who have turned into genuine friendships and helped grow my business immensely.
