Meet Abby Woolston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abby Woolston.

Hi Abby, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! I am Abby, I am 18 years old and I am a licensed cosmetologist. I started cosmetology school when I was 16 years old. I did a program that allowed me to attend cosmetology school alongside high school. I did that during my Junior and Senior year along with the summers. I also worked at a salon during this time at the front desk as well as assistant. This helped me so much and showed me what the profession would be like in the future!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, I wouldn’t say it had been a smooth road. There are lots of amazing things that I have learned as well as some tough lessons! One struggle was trying to balance hair school, high school, work, and family, all while trying to maintain a social life. There were late assignments, early mornings, and lots of stress but it was so worth it in the end. Another struggle was not letting people get to you. I learned in this industry as well as in life itself there will always be people that don’t like when you succeed. I learned to not let them get to you and to always focus on the love and support you get from other people as well as yourself.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a licensed cosmetologist. Although I am licensed in nails and skin I love all things hair the most! I specialize in colors, blonding, and extensions. I am very proud of myself and my work ethic. By the time I graduated high school I had my cosmetology license with 1900 hours behind it, as well as my master extension certification. I think what sets me apart from others is I always want to grow. I love growing my clientele, my Instagram, my skills and knowledge, my relationships and so much more!

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is making other people happy as well as keeping myself happy. My favorite thing is when you finish someone’s service and you can see how happy they are! It makes them feel so good about themselves which always makes me so happy. I love being a friend to people and always being there to listen. People joke that being a hairstylist is also being a therapist and it is so true! It is also important to me that I stay happy. I love my job and make sure to balance it with other things that make me happy too!
