Meet Ali Phillips of MedicalMatch Corporation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ali Phillips.

Ali, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my career as a registered nurse, working in hospice, emergency medicine, and clinical leadership roles for nearly two decades. Being on the front lines, I witnessed firsthand how broken and inefficient the healthcare staffing system was – how much time was wasted, how many shifts went unfilled, and how often both clinicians and healthcare organizations felt like they didn’t have control or transparency in the process.

My first entrepreneurial step came when I developed and patented a disposable medical bag cover to reduce infection transmission. That product is now internationally licensed, and the experience taught me that I could build scalable, meaningful solutions in healthcare.

Still, I wanted to solve a bigger problem. That’s what led to MedicalMatch – a tech-enabled holistic healthcare marketplace built on the idea of empowering both clinicians and organizations with more freedom, trust, and control. I went back to school and earned a Master’s in Business Creation from the University of Utah, giving me the business rigor I needed to pair with my clinical insight.

Today, I’m leading MedicalMatch as CEO, focused on eliminating reliance on outdated job board processes and staffing agencies. We’re building the first true open marketplace for healthcare workforce – powered by real-time data, clinician vetting, and radical transparency – so that hospitals and healthcare systems can actually vet in real time their future workforce before making long-term commitments. It’s about unlocking operational flexibility, reducing costs, and improving continuity of care. Creating a long term sustainable workforce model that compliments the long standing traditional work model, coupled with autonomy.

The journey hasn’t been linear, but it’s been deeply personal – and every step has been about solving real problems for real people, and communities that need us now more than ever.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s definitely been a journey filled with challenges, but each one has been a catalyst for growth.

Coming from a clinical background, stepping into the world of tech and venture building required me to learn quickly and lead boldly. I didn’t have the traditional startup playbook – but I had something more powerful: firsthand knowledge of the healthcare system’s broken workforce model and a deep conviction to fix it.

Building MedicalMatch hasn’t been easy. There were moments early on where we had to make hard financial choices, and times where we had to realign our team and strategy to stay true to our mission. But through it all, I’ve learned that clarity of vision, values-based leadership, and surrounding yourself with the right people makes all the difference.

These experiences shaped not just the business – but me as a founder. They taught me to move with urgency, lead with transparency, and make decisions with long-term sustainability in mind. Today, we’re gaining meaningful traction, partnering with major healthcare systems, and proving that a new workforce model is not only possible – but urgently needed.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
MedicalMatch is redefining how healthcare professionals and organizations connect – by putting power and flexibility back into their hands.

We’re the first real-time, AI-powered healthcare staffing marketplace where health systems post open shifts – and vetted clinicians choose the ones that work for them. No recruiters. No contracts. No middlemen. Just smart, transparent, and direct engagement between those who need care and those who provide it.

Unlike traditional job boards or staffing agencies, we’re built as a true two-sided marketplace. That means clinicians have full visibility and autonomy, and organizations gain speed, cost savings, and better continuity of care. Our matching engine works in minutes, not days – reducing fill times and staffing friction in some of the nation’s most stressed healthcare systems.

What sets us apart is our community-first approach, our radical transparency, and our commitment to creating a more sustainable, responsive healthcare workforce. We’re proud to be led by clinicians, built with integrity, and designed to solve real problems with real-time solutions.

We’re not just filling shifts – we’re reimagining how healthcare workforce is done creating a new sustainable model that compliments our traditional workforce.

How do you define success?
To me, success is about creating lasting impact by solving real problems for real people.

Professionally, it means building something that empowers others – whether that’s a clinician gaining more autonomy, a healthcare system finding relief from staffing strain, or a patient receiving better care because the right professional showed up at the right time. If we’re restoring trust, improving lives, and making the system work better for everyone in it – that’s success.

Personally, success means leading with integrity and staying grounded in purpose. I didn’t come from a traditional tech background. I came from the front lines of healthcare. So every partnership – no matter how big or small – is deeply personal. It’s a reflection of resilience, vision, and faith.

Ultimately, success is when I can look back and say, “We built something that mattered. We did it the right way. And we lifted people along the way.”
