Meet Aly Sanders

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aly Sanders.

Hi Aly, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My love for filming actually dates back to my childhood. I have been making videos since I was 12 years old. I was that friend that always had the camera out! I loved documenting the memories. I got married to my husband when I was just 18 years old. He got accepted into medical school just a few years into our marriage. When I was 21, I gave birth to our first daughter. When she was only 6 weeks old, we moved to Idaho for my husband to start medical school. I wanted to start a business as a videographer, but it didn’t seem feasible at the time. My husband was in graduate school, I had a brand-new baby, we were far from family help… the list goes on. I was working at home as a medical transcriptionist. Although I felt so lucky to be able to work from home, I wasn’t happy. With the support from my husband and my family, I started Peek Media. I was terrified of failing. Don’t get me wrong, it was so hard. Juggling a family, a job, and starting a business is no easy task. I announced Peek Media to the world in September of 2019! I started booking clients, and I couldn’t believe that I was going to make my dream a reality. Then in March of 2020, the world faced a global pandemic. I had just launched Peek Media and quit my transcriptionist job to pursue my dream. The world was in a scary place. Weddings, events, and gatherings of any kind were getting cancelled and postponed. It was tempting to just throw in the towel. In spite of it all, I was still able to get my foot in the door and start building my business. Although I was busier than ever, I was also happier than ever. Fast forward to 2021, and I got pregnant with my little boy. I found out I was pregnant just a couple’s weeks before my first wedding of 2021 was scheduled. 2021 was incredible! I moved to Utah, my business continued to grow, I met so many amazing people and felt so blessed to be doing what I loved. I filmed my last wedding in October, 35 weeks pregnant! I welcomed my little boy in December. It’s now 2022. My husband is in the last half of medical school, I have two tiny kids running around, and Peek Media continues to grow. Yes, this time of life is so busy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I am so passionate about documenting human connection. I don’t create these films for my clients right now. I create them for my clients 10, 20, 30 years in the future. There is something so priceless about getting to hear your grandma give you advice on your wedding day, watching you dance with your dad, or hearing the love of your life say they vow to love you for the rest of their life. This life is so unpredictable. I find so much joy is preserving these memories for so many people.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I mentioned the difficulties I faced in the previous question. However, I will say, although I went through two children, a husband in graduate school, an out-of-state move, and a global pandemic… the biggest obstacle was myself. It’s hard to tackle imposter syndrome. It was hard to believe in myself. I don’t think that will ever go away! It’s also so important for me to show my children that their mom can pursue their dreams! I work in a predominantly male industry. So, for a young woman like myself, one that is also raising a family, I want to prove to the world that we can do it too.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a videographer and filmmaker. I specialize in documenting human connection. I film weddings, elopements, families, couples, and newborns. To me, it’s much more than just pretty videos set to music—it’s about heartfelt moments, genuine emotion, and the profound connection between people. I strive to capture every moment and every raw emotion so that when they look back, they can truly relive each moment. My approach is to capture the real and authentic moments, that aren’t interrupted or posed. I want my films to be timeless so that in 10, 30, 50 years from now, you can still feel like you’re there. Think of your grandparents… what if you could watch their wedding film? Hear their voices? Watch them dance together? I want these videos to carry on through generations.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
There’s so many things!

My children. I love experiencing things again through their eyes.

Nature. There is something so special about being out in nature. I grew up in Utah surrounded by towering mountains. That’s where my heart is. I’m an avid house plant collector! I guess I’m just trying to bring nature into my home in every way I can. 😉

My job. I feel so fulfilled when I can film and document the human experience.
