Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Gorkiewicz Sullivan
Hi Anna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am originally from Poland and always loved baking and helping my mom in the kitchen. She is a great baker. She always made amazing fruit tarts and cakes. One of my most vivid memories is a fabulous hedgehog cake she created using almond slivers as spikes. I was about five years old at the time and thought it was the greatest cake ever baked! Fast forward a bunch of years to 2018, when I moved to Heber. I continued to be interested in baking and found myself watching YouTube videos on how to create things and started baking for friends. The second Summer I was here, I took a chance and started baking cakes to sell by the slice at the Heber Farmer’s Market in City Park. From there, I started getting people asking if I would do custom work, so my husband and I converted a back bedroom in our little house into a commercial kitchen. Things went well, and I eventually outgrew the little kitchen and moved to my current commercial location in Daniel in 2023.
I have many repeat customers, and it is especially fun to do kids’ cakes every year, seeing what different themes they want as they grow older. I also really enjoy working on wedding cakes. The whole experience of meeting new couples and helping them create their vision for their special day.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would not call it a smooth road; it’s been a rather windy path full of adventures, both fun and challenging. Moving to America was a tremendous change for me. Everything was new and different. The same applies to baking. Being accustomed to the metric system, I had to learn how to use pounds and ounces; I can’t say how many cakes were a failure because I set the oven wrong or put too much of something in a batter. Seven years passed, and I still have a magnet with a cheatsheet on my fridge. I continue to educate myself. I still watch tons of videos, and I have attended some amazing classes both online and in-person to keep up with trends and learn new things. I was scared to death the first time I started piping sugar cookies. Now I really enjoy it. All that aside, I love my little business. It gives me purpose and a sense of belonging.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Hungry Bunny Bakery offers custom cakes, cookies, and desserts. From weddings, birthdays, and milestone celebrations to everyday sweet cravings, we’ve got you covered. I also do some desserts for local restaurants, including OG Cafe, Boneyard Saloon, and Butcher’s Chop House in Park City. I get a lot of compliments on the beauty of my work, but I am always excited when people get back to me about how great things taste. That is my goal! Every celebration is special, and I strive to make my cakes reflect that. Always baked from scratch and decorated with attention to detail.
What were you like growing up?
I grew up in a small town in southern Poland, kind of near Krakow. I had a very happy and simple childhood. Both my mom and grandpa loved to cook and bake. Most of my early childhood memories are divided between a kitchen and my grandpa’s woodworking shop. I always loved crafting, cooking, and sewing. My grandparents had an old Singer sewing machine, and I learned how to sew, creating funny dolls and critters. I also loved being outside, playing with my dog Titan (One of my jobs was collecting eggs from the chickens. I used to sneak a few to Titan here and there.), riding bikes, and playing badminton. My mom says I was one of those kids who was always exploring something and never bored. I guess the baking is a result of that. I love both the technical challenges of baking and the artistic side of decorating.
