Meet Annie Whittaker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Annie Whittaker.

Hi Annie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I decided to make a career change when I was in graduate school. While I was figuring out what to do next, I found a job that I thought I would enjoy near my home. I applied at the local flower shop and at the library. The flower shop called me back first! I started as a delivery driver and learned floral design while I helped out in the shop.

After a while, I knew that this was something that I was good at and I wanted to try my hand at opening my own shop. I opened a small location in Farmington, UT and after a few months, the business grew enough that my husband came on to help. After a few years, I purchased a business in Layton from an existing flower shop.

She had been in business for 10 years. My husband and I ran both shops and even a third location in Salt Lake for a while. We eventually grew enough here in our Layton location that we pared down to one location and focused our resources there. We have been in business in Layton for 20 years.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. We were handed the keys for the Layton location on August 1st, 2011.

The next month, our nation experienced the horrific tragedy of Sept. 11, 2011. Business came almost to a screeching halt. We weathered this storm and many others through hard work, going without, in many cases, and trying to serve our community and customers in the best way we could.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an award-winning floral designer and business owner.

We are known for long-lasting flower arrangements and personalized service to our customers. We are a full-service flower shop, meaning we design for weddings, funerals and sympathy arrangements, birthdays, get well, and all other occasions.
