Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Soots.
Hi Ashley, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I picked up my first camera 10 years ago. I knew one day I would want to capture the little features of the kids I might one day have. 2 beautiful babies and thousands of photos later, here I am. I am self-taught and am always learning something new. I love taking all types of photos but as I have evolved in photography my true passion emerged: smiling LITTLE faces. I have found that the most enjoyable part of being a photographer is making new friends out of my clients. They all have such different personalities and I look forward to meeting each and every one of them. I love what I do, and my passion truly shines through with all of my work.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a mother of 2, ages 6 and 3, working part-time and trying to run a business has been a challenge in itself. As my kids have gotten older, they have shown a huge interest in my work. Asking how my shoots went and if they could even be in them! Their support has definitely made this journey more enjoyable.

As a photographer in Salt Lake County, finding your niche is what can set you apart from others. I have found that my ability to interact with children has helped my work shine. I am able to capture those genuine smiles that little kids have. While I love working with littles, engagement and maternity sessions are also high on my list of favorite services I offer. I love finding new ways to work with clients so I recently stated something called a “Blind Session”. Interested single clients can complete a questionnaire on my website and I will match them with someone that meets their criteria of a blind date photo session!
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Utah is well known for the beautiful landscapes and it is definitely one of the reasons I love being a photographer here. Unfortunately, the air quality isn’t the best but we make do.
