Meet Brittany Harrison

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Harrison.

Hi Brittany, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have honestly always loved taking pictures, even as a little kid. At about 12 years old, I would pose my younger siblings in front of the camera and take pictures. In my family, I kind of became the go-to, to take pictures and I lOVED it! As I got older, I still took pictures but focused on other things to make into a career.

I tried out so many different avenues but nothing stuck very long because I wasn’t very passionate about it. Fast forward about 3 1/2 years into my marriage and mom to 2 cute little girls. I was on a date with my husband he randomly says, “You should do photography, you’re really good at it so you might as well get paid to do it.”

I had never really thought much about turning it into a career, but the more I thought about it, the more excited I got! The next day, I started looking into buying a camera. It took me about 2 weeks to actually find the one (after extensive research haha) that I really felt would be a great fit for me.

It took me a couple of months to work up the confidence to start taking pictures of other people. Once I started though, I just kept going and have loved every moment of it since!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been super tough but it hasn’t been super smooth either. It all just depends on the day. I would say that a few of the struggles that I have been, me being a perfectionist and being too hard on myself. I also tend to compare myself to others and get down that maybe I’m just not good enough.

Patience has been a struggle because I want to already be at “Z” in my career. I have to remind myself all the time that everyone went through “ABC” to get to “Z” and that just a little bit of patience goes A LONG way!

One other struggle, that is still ongoing right now, would have to be juggling being a photographer as well as a stay-at-home mom. With my husband’s super long work weeks a lot of the time, most of the responsibility of parenthood falls on my shoulders.

It can be really difficult keeping the house together, taking care of my children, and making sure I’m as well building my business. I’m slowly figuring out a schedule that works and finding the balance for all things in my life.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a photographer who specializes in Commercial/Product, Couples, Branding, and Headshots. I would say that I am most proud of how far I have come from when I first started photography to now and it’s only been a couple of months that I have been doing it!

With my sessions, I would say that what sets me apart is a couple of things actually. I love getting my clients a little gift from local vendors to show my appreciation to my clients and then support the local businesses as well. Another thing that sets me apart is that I really focus on client experience.

With that, I edit and send out client galleries usually within a couple of days. And at the sessions, I really focus on the vibe of the client and match it to make sure they feel comfortable and have a great experience!

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
In 5-10 years, I will have my own studio.

I also will have a team of other photographers that work under me and each one will specialize in a different type of photography so that there is someone for everyone. I want to be the business that clients can reach out to for any needs and know that whoever works with me is trusted and also as far as convenience goes it cuts down on the searching time.

I also will be traveling and doing a couple of sessions in different parts of the world. And hosting styled shoots in other parts of the world as well. I will be a photographer for different big companies.

My husband as well will be partnering with me as a videographer and then he won’t have to work at a corporate job and as a family, we can travel more and create more memories with our children.

I will also be able to mentor other photographers and educate them more on how they can grow their business as well as other photography education.
