Today we’d like to introduce you to Brock Gill.
Hi Brock, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in Louisiana. At age 22, I found myself working in a sawmill. While I was there I felt a call to do something different. I quit my job and became a magician. For the past 25 years, I have been touring around the world doing magic shows. I have performed for groups in arenas and theaters. Often times those groups were large, up to 28,000 people. The Pandemic slowed down the touring a bit. Then I had an injury that slowed down the bookings even more. I reinvented myself and began riding a motorcycle across the country on dirt roads known as the Trans America Trail. I began filming those adventures and posting them on YouTube. It quickly got traction and began to grow. I spent 40 days riding the TAT, filming each day as I rode coast to coast. I had so much fun meeting people and adventuring that I decided to make this a full-time pursuit. I still do a few magic shows but on any given day you will find me doing adventure rides and filming them. Soon I will go to Europe and begin a ride there. I have talked with many people and have found that at the end of life people are not wishing they had worked more or made more money, they wish they had more quality time with people and experienced more adventure. So I am now trying to inspire people to “experience adventure.”
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey has been full of challenges. When I first began my career, it was extremely difficult. I had my trailer stolen which contained all of my stage props and gear to do the show. It was a major setback. Soon after that the new truck I purchased as a replacement, burned up one night while I was in Alabama. 30 days after that my rental truck was robbed. I have had many challenges like this and they always seem to happen when I was busy doing shows and have no time to find easy solutions. I have many stories
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am known as an illusionist who tours the world. I am also known as a tv host. My current tv series is called moto mission. It is on a streaming platform called Klove on demand. My newest venture is a YouTube channel where I ride an adventure motorcycle in beautiful places and allow the audience to live vicariously thru me. What sets me apart is my composition of these things foremost. I always have crazy stories, I am a world traveler, I am a true adventurist.
I’ve done shows in prisons in poor countries, villages in the arctic circle, the city dump in a third-world country, refugee camps in Middle East borders. And also for large audiences in the USA, including being on the largest tour in the world in 2012.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Finding a mentor is not easy but very necessary. I look for someone who is older and wiser. I look for someone who is excelling in their field and “sit at their feet”. I think that a mentor doesn’t have to be in your specific area of interest or business. You can see character and principles and ethics in other people and apply that to yourself. Don’t look for a mentor to be perfect. Learn from their mistakes and misfortunes, those are sometimes the best lessons. At the end of the day, it’s not about money or influence or success. it’s about character.
