Meet Brynn Shipley of Salt Lake City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brynn Shipley.

Hi Brynn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Ever since I could remember, I’ve always had a fascination and passion for all things glamour.
I grew up in a home as the only girl amongst three brothers. I remember as a kid, I loved watching a show that aired on TLC called “What Not to Wear” where the hosts Stacy and Clinton revamped the wardrobes of their nominees. However, I recall, the most exciting segment of the show was the hair and makeup transformation at the end of the episode. I was completely enamored by that entire process. Seeing how a little bit of this, and a little of that, accompanied with a good hairstyle completely altered how these people viewed themselves for the better. I was not only obsessed, I was determined to acquire that skill myself.
Fast forward to now, I have worked in the beauty industry for 15 years. I began working at MAC as my first makeup job, and in years to follow I worked a lot of retail cosmetic positions in just about every position, department and beauty store you can think of. I learned so many valuable skills and lessons in those years I was “paying my dues”.
Those years in cosmetics I was able to form so many connections, and through hard work and word of mouth. I’ve been able to work completely independent as an artist for the past 6 years.
I specialize in Bridal and event glam, but the past 3 years I’ve also been working as a HMUA on set in the film/commercial production world, and it’s been such a fun journey.
I love to learn and take on any opportunity to learn something new/refine my current skill set.
I feel so blessed to be where I am today. I’ve met so many amazing people along the way. I absolutely love what I do. I get to perform a little magic, and experience what it’s like to help reveal someone’s inner confidence, and it feels great!
The fact that what I get to do for a living, never feels like work because I enjoy it so much, is my definition of wealth and success.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey has not always been smooth! Networking wasn’t always my strong suit. I believe I could have been on my independence journey much sooner, had I been confident in taking that leap.
However, I believe that’s how we learn! The best teacher is experience, trial, and error.
You’ll only improve and keep getting better.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in bridal party glam. I do a lot of work with destination brides in the Deer Valley/ surrounding areas. I would say I’m known for producing soft glam looks.
I have been loving working in production, however. It’s been so much fun to see how everything comes together. I love being able to read a script and take notes on what hair and makeup would suit the scene best.
I always tell my clients that my goal is to achieve an “elevated version of yourself”.
I think it’s very important for the client to not only recognize themselves, but to feel extremely comfortable in their own skin.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Honestly, I feel like client relationships are just as important and the quality of the service provided.
I pride myself in providing strong communication, and being an active listener.
