Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Goodwin
Hi Casey, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started writing music in the sixth grade, but it was always a passion and a background hobby, though, I just loved music as well to be honest. Maybe more than the average person because I began obsessing over the creation and making of it. I also found that I was often times conveying my thought and coping with my emotions with music. Both listening and writing to it. My life has always been a constant battle for peace and happiness so there has never been any lack of inspiration. To this day I still battle with a lot and use music as, well, my muse lol. My parents split when I was very young and so I never had a good role mode or father figure to look up too. The closet thing I had was my buddy’s dad who I met in 7th grade but he sadly passed away a few years ago. There’s a lot to my story and all I’ve needed was one person to ask questions about it. It’s quite the tale but I assure you it’s not finished yet. I still got lots to do and accomplish. But I’d love to talk about and explain it all so that I can help Amy one else who might be struggling or going through something, I’ve been broke, I’ve been homeless, and I’ve been in pain begging for change. But I have never lost sight of my goals. And All I want is to share my message with the world.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been very hard, my dad left my mom when I was three, and she remarried a couple times but they were all dead beats and douche bags. I Was verbally and mentally tortured as well as abused most my life which caused several severe issues I have to deal with daily. But I manage.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Now, I do work a nine to five like most however I do have goals to make it as an artist someday so that I can give back to my family and my community. Everyone that comes in contact with my music always has more than great things to say. There are some bad apples of course but you aren’t a hero in everyone’s story. I’m very proud of how far I’ve came and the fact that I am still here. I am a suicide attempt survivor and fight with severe depression and anxiety as well as a bunch other things, so, I’m glad that I’m still here making music to help others who might feel the same way. The fact that I can connect with people and share a bond around the world is something I am very proud and lucky to be a part of.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I know it sounds dark but I don’t really have one to be honest. Most my childhood was rough but I can say there were some good moments for sure. As rough as my mom’s and I’s relationship is, she tried. She was a single mom for a big chunk of my childhood and did what she could. I think the best thing I could describe was just the feelings. My favorite memories are the happy ones. Playing out in the sun with my older brother while mom sits on the porch drinking lemonade. Pretending the bed was a spaceship with all the lights off and having my big brothers yell “take off” with glow in the dark stickers in the ceiling. I just miss those happy days. The way those memories feel. I don’t know, like I said it’s a little sad but that’s just the truth I guess
