Meet Celeste Carbajal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Celeste Carbajal.

Hi Celeste, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I love sharing how I started my photography business! I graduated from Grand Canyon University in 2019 with the goal to pursue Counseling. I started my Master’s Program to become a Licensed Counselor. Fast forward a few jobs later, searching for what I wanted to pursue wholeheartedly. I had an unforgettable talk with my dad during my lunch break at work.

One thing I will never forget is when he told me, “Just go for it, you have favor over your life.” During my break times at work, I’d try my best to edit and hurry to curate captions for my photos to post on social media! I’ve had a camera in college just to take photos of special events for my loved ones. It took one second-shooting job for a wedding to spark my passion for capturing wedding photography!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No one prepares you to own your own business. The craft and creative outlet of photography is enjoyable and of course the outcome of beautifully edited photos.

However, did I know it’ll come with life-changing interactions, the ability to fully provide a service, and to run the legal terms of a business? Nope, not at all. But I am forever grateful! Navigating and executing different roles in a business have been challenging, but I continue to grow and expand my learning!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Destination Wedding Photographer. I get to be a part of such a celebration between two lovers and their loved ones! While there are many genres to photography, wedding photography has sparked a love for traveling, intentional planning with clients, and documenting a love story.

I admire capturing an authentic love between two people. When people view my work, I want photos that feel! I also admire the composition in my photos that allow viewers to see the beautiful landscapes and space. I really try to find intention in my process of booking clients, what their vision is, and how I can deliver!

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Any advice that I have for someone starting out photography is,

— Learn your camera settings.
— Practice by shooting different events, and you’ll be able to find what you enjoy!
— Attend a styled shoot retreat to get connected with a community and photograph what you like.
— Even if you don’t start a legal business, I would still ask questions about what it would look like to start a business.
— More of a quote that has helped me, “it doesn’t matter if the market is saturated, there is an audience for everyone.”
