Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Doyen-Thomas.
Hi Chelsea, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My love of photography stems from my passion for the outdoors and everything wildlife. I am a passionate defender of the environment, always standing up for animals. I call Nevada home but am infatuated with all of the desert southwest with its mountains, rivers, wetlands, red rock canyons, and endless skies.
My wish is that my photos and videos will expose others to appreciate what is out there take care of our remaining resources and give voice to the voiceless. Photography has given me the perfect vehicle for this. The wild mustangs, mountain lion, and bear are a particular focus of mine.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As the cliche goes, “If it was easy, everyone would be doing it”.
Photography is ever-changing but immensely rewarding. Just when you think you have something figured out, reality comes and knocks you back a step. I love the challenges and wouldn’t have it any other way.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I try to capture landscape and wildlife images from a perspective that maybe no one has ever seen before. Still, some subjects are a bit overdone, but Georgia O’Keefe would paint the same landscape a hundred times with a different outcome.
I’ve been told I am an impatient man, but when it comes to capturing an image, I seem to have an abundance of patience. Trying to convey an emotion through an image is what I’m after, sometimes taking a day, a week, or a month of trying.
The lives and the fate of our wild horses here in the west maybe set me apart. I believe more needs to be done legislatively to protect and preserve the habitat for this magnificent animal to thrive.
Can you talk to us about happiness and what makes you happy?
Besides my wife and daughter, what makes me the happiest is simply being in the wild photographing and capturing videos of landscapes and wildlife. Preferably in wide open spaces and wilderness areas where there will be no interruptions and or unnatural disturbances.
Whenever I am out on such excursions, I always return with a feeling of fulfillment and peace which is difficult to describe. Completeness and sense that everything is the way it should be.
