Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Akee.
Hi Cindy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have always had a love for photography and capturing those special moments. Christmas of 2016, I was gifted a camera by my good friends Bill and Carol Bass after seeing what I was doing with a phone camera. From there, it was my goal to learn all I could about creating magical moments. I have spent countless hours learning all I can to continue to improve and learn what I can from fellow photographers, group meet-ups, youtube and classes I have enrolled in as well. I am now capturing those special moments for others as well as for myself and my family.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road as photography is a challenging business because anyone can take a photo. I have spent a lot of time creating my own style and setting myself apart from others to be able to sell my work. Photography is not just taking a photo. It is getting the right perspective to make the photo interesting, capturing the moments, having the right equipment and lens for the type of photography you are doing, lighting is very important, as well as the editing and post-processing after the photos are done. Lighting was a challenge for me to learn because each photo can be a unique situation. The lighting is not always what you hope it will be when you go to take photos.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I feel I am very creative when it comes to photography. I love to gift my clients with a special edit which usually consists of a fun magical type of photo, fairies, mermaids, superheroes or something I know they are interested in or love. This is something that not all photographers do or want to learn. I love using my photography to help out in the community as well from documenting events for the local newspaper. I have had multiple photos published in magazines and the newspaper.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I feel being open to feedback is a quality that you have to be willing to accept in the world of photography as everyone sees a photo and interprets it in their own way and can either really love it or be very critical of it. I have learned you need to listen to what people have to say about your work both good and bad and then look at the photo through their eyes and take out all the emotions in how it is communicated to you. You can learn from what is being said if you listen to what others are saying as most of the time it is being said to help you grow not in a bad way, even when it feels negative.
