Meet Cooper Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cooper Brown.

Hi Cooper, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I built a DJ company back in 2009 called, One Above Entertainment, which I still own and operate today. DJing is all about the atmosphere, so I started doing a lot of unique event lighting with projections, mapping, uplighting, and designs.

I wanted to be able to offer these as stand-alone services so folks didn’t have to hire me as a DJ to rent out my lighting equipment, so I established Charisma Event Productions as a separate business in 2019. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, vendors in the events industry had many gigs canceled on them. As a full-time DJ, I needed a way to make more money and had to think quickly! I always considered myself very “techy,” so I ended up creating a really unique service: wedding live streams. I had a lot of experience in the wedding industry and thought it was the perfect place to start this offering.

Livestream weddings were going super well and my business quickly grew from there. I had pivoted my business in a major way to help people in a time of need. I’ve been all around the nation live streaming cheer competitions, business conferences, spike ball tournaments, internal company meetings, funerals, semi-professional football games, and everything in between.

Just this past week, we had a workshop livestream, wedding livestream, and Utah State Capitol service livestream – keep ‘em coming!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’d love to hear from an entrepreneur who would consider building a business “smooth.” The road has been challenging and difficult. I’ve only been in the Livestream and broadcasting world for two years and had to build my knowledge of the industry from zero to 100 really quickly.

Livestream is extremely technical – it requires various software and internet providers, battery-powered cameras, wireless video transmitters, video servers, and so much more. I have spent sleepless nights trying to figure things out. Yes, I’ve been successful. Yes, it’s very rewarding. BUT! It has taken a lot of hard work to get to where I am today.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As the owner of Charisma Event Productions, I help run our business and manage our team, but I’m also one of the livestream technicians.

We specialize in virtual and hybrid events. Recently, we did a virtual product launch for an organization with thousands of people watching live. Hybrid events are becoming increasingly popular, giving attendees their choice to attend in-person or online. Companies are beginning to understand that adding a virtual piece to their event allows them to have an unlimited number of attendees with no geographic boundaries. Charisma Event Productions takes lead on the virtual side of these events so organizations don’t have to carry that burden.

1.) Multi-camera livestream. It’s high-definition quality, the audio is rich – rewatching the event recording is like watching your favorite movie or TV show. 2.) Charisma Event Productions will live stream anywhere you can imagine! We’ve done live streams on the top of mountains. We have an event coming up where we’ll be live streaming from a canyon in Park City, UT. We’re known for taking on the challenge that other production companies won’t be able to service.

I am proud to say that we have helped companies and organizations completely transform their events from years prior. Thousands of viewers from all over the world have viewed our live stream. We’ve connected people during a time in our history where isolation and loneliness are ever-present.

Attention to detail and customer service. At Charisma Event Productions, we have a motto: Preparation is power. Yes, we have the equipment and knowledge, but we also help coach our clients and make sure they have a successful event. Their success is our success!

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Reach out to people who are in the same industry, tell them that you’re just starting and you have some questions. You’ll be amazed how many people will respond positively. Tip: try to ask for advice from those that wouldn’t be direct competitors. Schedule a 15-minutes call and have questions prepared that they could help you with.

I went through a lot of equipment and roundabout processes to get where I am today. Sure, I figured it all out eventually, but if I could do it over again, I’d hire a mentor so I could hit the ground running faster!

Pricing:

  • Pricing starts at $1,400 and goes up based on the complexity and length of the event.
