Meet Crystal Chadwick

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Chadwick.

Hi Crystal, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I always wanted to be an entrepreneur since I was a little girl. My dad owned a cleaning (and later a construction) business, and since as young as I can remember, I knew without a shadow of a doubt that I was going to have my own business too! I grew up working for him from an early age; we didn’t have a lot of money when I was growing up and we had a big family, so if I wanted extra things, I had to make my own money and buy them myself; it taught me a good work ethic early on that I”m very grateful for.

I ended up getting pregnant unexpectedly with my daughter at the age of 19, and the very next day I went out and got my first business license, doing cleaning and handyman work. With a baby on the way, I knew I was going to need to make more money than I was at the time, so that’s immediately where my mind went. Trying to make things work for my daughter, her dad and I ended up getting married and doing that business together for a few years. No matter how hard I tried to keep things together and pretend like everything was fine on the outside, things inside my life were imploding.

My daughter’s father had a drug abuse problem, and we were forced to leave him abruptly due to ongoing domestic violence. We left him when she was 3 years old, and we had to leave behind everything- our home, most of our belongings, and my business. I had a small child and no money or way to provide for her, so I had to think fast. I immediately started the remodeling business I have now, Yin & Yang Construction (formerly Facelift Renovations), with no idea how I was supposed to make this happen.

I was a young blonde girl, now a single mom, with nothing to my name, and I was so worried no one was going to take me seriously! But I got to work, working with my dad again part-time to bring in some income to pay the bills, and with any extra few dollars I had, I would immediately put towards my business. It was a very, very long road for me to start gaining any sort of traction or success in my business at first because I had basically no money, and on top of that, my daughter and I had significant healing to do in the meantime. It was almost a full-time job for many years as we were healing from CPTSD and trying to get out of survival mode. But 10 years later, I have a thriving handyman and remodeling business.

This business is so important to me and represents such a major part of who I am because it’s the vehicle that has allowed me to provide for myself and my child during some of the most difficult times in our lives, and now it supports us in a way where I’m able to be both a present mother and provide a great life for us as well. Even though going through my journey over the past decade has taken so long it’s seemed at times to get to where I am now, I am so grateful that I decided to take the harder path of growth; growing my business slowly so that we could take the proper time to heal. I have grown so much as an individual, as a mother, and as an entrepreneur over the past decade. Because of all the healing work I’ve done and many hard life lessons learned along the way, I got certified as a holistic health and wellness coach several years ago, and now I work with women to not only heal their relationship with their bodies but also with their business and with men!

I am so passionate about transformation, that’s why I love home remodels, but I’m also fascinated with personal growth too! I believe when women can balance their masculine and feminine energies, get out of their heads and into their bodies, and take radical accountability and immaculate care of ourselves, we are very powerful creatures, and we can create a life where we don’t have to settle, but instead can magnetize everything we desire!

After many years of heartbreak, struggle, and tough lessons, I am now creating the life I have always dreamed of! I have a thriving career, doing business in a way that works for me and my lifestyle; I get to travel several times a year to places I always dreamed of going to; I have a healthy, beautiful teenager who has a promising future, and I am building a life and a beautiful relationship with my best friend and the man of my dreams!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth is definitely not the word I would use to describe my journey! Many of the struggles were balancing work, owning a business, and not only being a mom, but predominately the only parent for my daughter, and the only income provider for her and our household….all while healing from trauma, especially in the beginning was very hard. Also not having hardly any money originally, I really had to bootstrap and hustle for many years.

In some ways, I’m super grateful for this and I appreciate this part of myself so much, but I also experienced extreme burnout and chronic fatigue (eventually an autoimmune disease) due to the stress and pressure of everything. This is ultimately what led me further down the road of holistic wellness and incorporating more feminine embodiment and balance in my life. I also believe these challenges have given me immense strength and resilience that now serve me well.

As you know, we’re big fans of Yin & Yang Construction & Crystal Chadwick LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My first business is Yin & Yang Construction. We are a remodeling business, specializing in small remodels such as bathrooms, painting, flooring, and handyman repairs. We are 100% female owned and operated, and we just won Best of Salt Lake City this year for the Handyman category! I am very proud of this because when I first started this business, it was just me, and now I have a team of people who support me and our customers.

Our industry generally gets a pretty bad rap for dishonest and sketchy people/ businesses, but we have a lot of great reviews and really strive to provide better customer service than the rest of the industry! We focus on the projects we specialize in and do well, and we don’t take on things outside of our wheelhouse so we can focus on providing great results.

My second business is Crystal Chadwick LLC. This is my coaching business, where I work with ambitious women to reclaim their power and magnetism! Specifically, we get to the root of what’s going on for them and heal their relationship with their body, business, and men so they can stop settling for victimhood, burnout, unhealthy bodies and relationships, and ultimately create a life where they get to have the body, business, and relationship of their dreams! I take a holistic approach in my programs, because everything is correlated and interconnected, and by helping women step into the highest version of themselves, they can attract the things they deeply desire and get to have!

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
Oh boy, where to start! I am a life-long learner and obsessed with personal development, so the list is long! The best book I have read recently that made the biggest impact was The Untethered Soul by Michael A. Singer. I recommend this to anyone looking to do a deep soul cleanse and release any stuck trauma, emotions, or energy that they’re ready to release. It’s currently at the top of my list.

The podcasts I have been listening to the last few years that I really love and resonate with are:
– The Sakara Life Podcast
– The Relax into Love Podcast
– Becoming SupraWoman
– The Show with John Madsen
– The Marie Forleo Podcast

I also follow these accounts on Instagram and really love them (several have been private mentors for me as well):
