Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Campagna.
Hi Emily, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Rust and Thistle Floral started in 2012 with a love for flowers and a desire to create beautiful, meaningful wedding experiences. What began as a creative passion has grown into a full-service wedding floral studio serving couples throughout Idaho and beyond.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to design hundreds of weddings, and I still love getting to create something unique for every couple. My goal has always been to make the floral design feel like a natural extension of their story and the space they’re celebrating in.
Like any small business, there have been plenty of highs and challenges along the way, but I’m incredibly grateful that after more than a decade, I still get to do what I love and be part of such meaningful moments!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not! Like most small business owners, there have been plenty of ups and downs over the years. From navigating the uncertainty of COVID to managing the seasonality of the wedding industry, there have been moments that have really tested me.
Most recently, our business Instagram account, which we’d spent 15 years building, was permanently disabled after a phishing attack. Losing that community overnight was incredibly difficult, but the support we’ve received while rebuilding has been overwhelming and reminded me how valuable real relationships are. Every challenge has taught me something, and each one has made both me and my business stronger and more resilient.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We specialize in full-service wedding floral design, creating everything from bouquets and centerpieces to large-scale installations and ceremony spaces. I’m especially known for romantic, garden-inspired designs with a refined, natural feel.
What I’m most proud of is the experience we create for our couples. I want them to feel taken care of from our first conversation through their wedding day, so they can fully enjoy the moment without worrying about the details. Our team is calm and professional and always goes above and beyond and I am proud of that after each and every wedding.
I think what sets Rust and Thistle apart is our personalized approach. Every wedding is custom designed, and we take the time to understand each couple’s style, priorities, and venue so the florals feel like they truly belong there.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that resilience and dedication matter just as much as creativity. Running a small business isn’t always easy, and there will always be unexpected challenges and setbacks. I’ve learned that success isn’t about avoiding those moments, it’s about continuing to show up, adapt, and keep moving forward even when you feel completed derailed or exhausted.
Rust and Thistle on has carried me through every season. Looking back, I’m grateful for the challenges because they’ve made me a stronger business owner.
